As much as I like Laura Id rather see Tennis Australia give that QWC to one of their own players such as Issy Wallace whos in the top 300 or one of their players who have just left/is at US college e.g. Perez, Sharma, Wool****.

Laura is in the main draw now for the 25K in week 1 and not withdrawn so presumably plans on heading down under though. Theres talk of her playing doubles but surely her ranking is too low unless she has bagged a great partner or is going to get a WC?

I believe that Laura has bagged a very high singles ranked partner in Coco Vandeweghe ( singles WR 10, doubles WR 62 ) or at least I read that being the plan a little while ago.

With Coco's current singles WR 10 and Laura's doubles WR 114  I imagine that with a 64 pair draw their combined ranking should get them in comfortably enough.

Thanks for the info - youre right that she get her into the doubles main draw then. I guess with her singles rank she can sigh in as an alt and see if she can sneak into qualies.

From the MTF list, Jay has so far moved up from 13th to 9th qualifying alt.

I think that he will make it but tight and it might be a pretty late thing with him remaining available. He's in Bangkok the previous week so will already be relatively in the vicinity.

Alex Bolt is still currently in that list but is also showing on the WC list. So that boosts him to 8th. Also two MD WCs have yet to be given out. So should they come from the players in the Qualifying list then potentially 6th on the list. But as you say will be tight.

Jay is now showing as 6th alt. In spite of various doubts no players have yet dropped out of the MD entry list, which of course if early enough would have a knock-on effect to qualifying, but they can leave it until after qualifying has started.

Still not allowing for Alex Bolt's MD WC so effectively 5th alt. And still these two remaining MD WCs to be declared,

On menstennisforum Jay is now showing as withdrawn from Aussie Q's. Shame as he would have probably made the cut. Wonder if it's an injury or just a schedule thing. I know it's a long way but when you have a reasonable chance to make the cut(looking at previous years) it's a shame to not see a young player make the journey. Who's knows what could happen.

Looks like he is staying in Europe and playing the challengers there.

Brydon has made it into Auckland qualifying - unfortunately he has drawn the top seed Albot in R1

Looks like Jay would have made the qualifying draw in AO if he had stuck with it. Entry level for Q's is now down to 257, he was at 255...

Yes, Jay would have probably ended up relatively comfortably in. Need some epidemic though to get Brydan ( now alt 17 ) naturally in, though he will probably be more in the area than some ahead of him so can maybe just hope for very late withdrawal(s).

Don't know if playing Auckland would be an issue ( I am sure someone mentioned possibly now not allowed to play another tournament in Slam qualifying week ) but are high alts just meant then to sit on their backsides and hope that an Aussie Q place becomes available or what?
