First ever pro match for 14 year old M J.
Good luck to her.
And, do you know what, there's just the one qualifying round, and I'm going to back her for a point.

I see that Harriet, Katie S and EWS are on the main draw list. Would this be a new country ticked off by Em ?

Nope! She'll have to go further afield.
She played here in Dakar in a $15K (the old tier - one above the then $10K's) in April, 2014.

It was at the same club, as it happens, and Emily won the doubles title, playing with, of all people... Conny Perrin! (who also won the singles).

Edit: scrub that. She beat Conny in the doubles final. Her partner was Chanel Simmonds.

I see two highly ranked girls chanced their luck and turned up with qualifying not full. One walked straight into the main draw, Helena got the other.

Must be a good chance for the three Brits to pick up big points. EWS needs to avoid a seed.

After starting the match with four good first serves and four points to win the first game to love, MJCs first service seems to have gone missing. She finished the set with only 38% of 1st serves in winning 7/13 and serving 9DFs. 3-6 0-0*.

MJ's opponeent, Loveth (now there's a good name), has seemingly never won a pro match, despite about a dozen attempts.
She must have fancied her chances this time.
Time for young MJ to rain on her parade.....

Service statistics in set 2 are revealing.
MJC 7/8 won on 1st serve 4/11 on 2nd serve, so she seems to have an effective 1st serve when it goes in.
Loveth Donatus 2/9 won on 1st serve and 3/12 on 2nd.

MJC held service in the 1st game of set 3 and then we had another toilet break! Is somebody getting nervous?
