This draw would seem to confirm Aljaz has shut it down for the year, he was on the entry list ahead of Shapovalov and Ryan Harrison who both ended up making the cut. On the subject of players ending their season early, Ivo Karlovic caused a few laughs on twitter today when announcing he would not make the Next Gen finals in Milan due to an ankle injury but hopes to be there next year
(16) Sock for the winner in the L32, not bad at all. Probably then (2) Federer in the L16 if still going - an experience at least I guess though probably not exactly helpful for going deeper.
And Edmund did beat Sock in Atlanta in July in their only ever meeting. Vienna to be done first, and Kyle must aim for at least one win over Pouille in Vienna and Paris
Certainly Pouille and Sock have provided Kyle's two best rankings wins this year. And while both were ranked top 20 when Kyle beat them, neither are now ( WR 25 and WR 23 respectively ).

I'd forgotten that the head-to-head between Kyle & Pouille was actually 1:1, with Kyle winning their first encounter on a hard court in the last 16 in Brisbane earlier this year (though that was by retirement: 6-3 3-1), while Pouille had his revenge in straight sets on clay in the DC.
Kyle was at his absolute best in Brisbane though. Having watched him sporadically all year, that was the best tennis he's played (perhaps along with the match against Djokovic in IW and the match with Rafa in Monte Carlo). Looked like a top ten player and really had Wawrinka on the ropes. Forehand was virtually unplayable and even the backhand was a lethal weapon

Yes, it is matches like that you mention there Sheddie, that without ( well most of us ) saying that Kyle is other than an extremely good player there can be some disappointment that overall he has plateaued in the rankings this year, much as that does happen to many players at different stages, and relatively lacked big wins ( often having shared an opening two very competitive sets ). Hopefully as he turns 23 in January his new coach can help get him playing near to his best more often from match to match and within matches and pull out more of these wins.
Have read that the draw has been re-jigged as Fed has pulled out. Kyle now to play Donskoy.
Yes, Pouille as the top ranked original non seed has shifted to Fed's place in the draw and (LL) Donskoy has taken Pouille's original place. So the two seeds in Kyle's eighth of the draw are the two lowest seeds, (16) Sock and (17) Pouille with a LL ( though still current WR 73 ) to start with.
