Yes, sadly Errani was always heavy favourite for that one :(

The doubles didn't start very well, for Laura & Jacqueline, 1-6 *3-4

They get their act together in set 2 though, and take it to the MTB, 1-6 6-4

I looked in on this match when they were 2-4 down in the second having lost the first. Next looked to see they had turned that round and were nudging, and then racing, ahead in the MTB . A cheering result to catch in the small hours here. Very pleased for Laura.

It didn't help her in her next match-losing 6-3,3-1 to Xiaodi You-[ ranked 482]when she decided to retire.

Aww shame. At least the ITF had some nice pics and write-up about her following her title last week under the heading "Errani makes winning return". I couldn't quite figure out why she had been away, Not mentioned

Maybe an article written by a WTA staffer on secondment.

We know not to expect any better from the WTA. Not while Steve Simon is there anyway. .

That can't be true. All WTA staffers are on rolling 24 hour shifts at the Sharapova canonization desk.
The authors secondment is more likely from IMG.

The final was the #1 vs the #2 seeds, but the 1s won it.

F: Jacqueline CAKO / Laura ROBSON [2] (GBR/USA) lost to Xinyun HAN / Makoto NINOMIYA [1] (CHN/JPN) 6-2 7-6(3)

Still, a good doubles week for Laura. Comparatively she is faring much better in the doubles than singles at the moment. Reaching the final here should move her up to WR114.

A decent fight; here's hoping she can make the top 100 soon then :)
