Has Tomic been injured or dropped down due to poor results I thought he was top 30 at Wimbledon

Tomic was WR 59 going into Wimbledon and WR 69 after it with a straight sets loss to Mischa Zverev. He has since only played in the US Open, losing in 4 sets to Gilles Muller in R1.

Solid start to the week from Kyle, but he will need to go deeper to have any effect on his ranking. The 20 points from today will not (yet) be one of his 18 counters. Kyle has 270 points coming off this month so he is going to need a good week or two simply to maintain his ranking. After October, he has nothing left to defend until the new year.

He has dropped down the rankings as he is lazy. End of.  He managed to become a solid top 40 player based on talent, not work ethic, that is what separates top 5, top 10 and so on.  Tennis is 80% talent, 20% work ethic.

If only, for some of those rather less committed very talented players !

Tournament report and quotes

Singles sixth seed Kyle Edmund of Great Britain made short work of his opening match against Aussie Bernard Tomic, racking up nine aces and converting 92% of his first serve points in a 6-4, 6-2 victory lasting 62 minutes to book his second round spot in the Chengdu Open 2017, held here at the Sichuan International Tennis Centre.

The courts here are pretty quick, quicker than I thought it would be. If you hit good shots, you get rewarded pretty quickly. Both me and Bernard hit the balls quite flat and play a bit aggressive so we didnt have very long rallies. Its nice to get out there and get a win after a few weeks off, said the 22-year-old world No.46, who has fully recovered from the slight neck injury that forced his withdrawal from the US Open early this month.
