Despite no GB presence, nonetheless I do like DC semifinal week and of course the play off's. They are up next week and teams are just coming in:
Semis
France v Serbia - France name Tsonga, Pouille, Herbert/Mahut; Serbia name Lajovic and Krajinovic, Zimonjic and Djere with Troicki joining Novak on the sidelines. Hard to see Serbia getting anything from France...
Belgium v Australia - Belgium name Goffin, Darcis, Bemelmans (who all played in DC final v GB) , Australia name Nick K, Thompson, Kokkinakis and Peers. Could be a v tight tie that one if all those players turn up and probably the tie of the week?
Play offs
Canada v India - Canada include Shapovalov in their team but no Raonic of course
Hungary v Russia - Russia include Rublev in their team, quite a talented line up overall for Russia
Japan v Brazil - Melo and Soares for Brazil, Japan include Sugita and also someone called Ben Maclachlan -a Kiwi by birth who played Scott and Jonny recently in doubles challenger and got beaten. Japan clearly weaker than normal!?
Portugal v Germany - teams not named yet
NL v Czech Rep - no big names, Berdych not playing. Someone called Roman Jebavy in the Czech team, ranked 907 currently?
Switzerland v Belarus - no big names playing
Colombia v Croatia - Cilic named for Croatia
Kazakhstan v Argentina - Schwartzman named for Argentina, no Delpo however

Portugal and Germany teams named - both the Sousa's for Portugal and Struff and Strebe for Germany, could make this a very even tie. All other teams seem to be the same as named originally.
The admittedly small poll sample supports France reaching the final easily, with Belgium and Australia proving hard to call at 2 votes each
France v Serbia - Day one is Pouille v Lajovic, Tsonga v Djere - cant help but see 2-0 at end of tomorrow in that, possibly even 6 straight sets to nil?
Bel v Aus - Goffin v Millman and Darcis v Kyrgios; looks like Millman has replaced Kokkinakis in the Aussie team although TK was at the pre match dinner, so suggests this is a tactical swap as
opposed to injury? After Millmans strong US Open, he stands a chance but on clay in Belgium, this looks like it will be 1-1 after day one.
Serbia take a 1-0 lead as Lajovic defeats Pouille in 4 sets. At least will keep match alive into day 3, wonder if Pouille will get replaced by Mahut if needed on day 3.
Belgium (Goffin) up two sets to one over Australia (Millman) , although Millman did well to take the first set on clay and is keeping it tight in the other two as well.
Just musing. If Gb had beaten France in the last 8 we would be playing Serbia at home this weekend.
Presumably that would have been on indoor hard. Any thoughts in who would have played for Gb - with Andy and kyle injured, Aljaz unable to play and Dan suspended, it would have been cam and maybe Liam, Brydan, ed, Jay? Any thoughts on that one? Jamie and dom would clearly have played doubles

Respect for Yannick Noah, who came out and said he'd had a really poor day as captain, was uptight, stressed, jumping around, putting everyone off.....
Seemingly, after the debacle with Pouille, it was Tsonga who told him to calm down, butt out, not to worry and just let him get on with it

I guess Kyle might just have been available, he is down to play next week and missing this coming week might be more caution having had an issue and with quite a busy schedule coming up.
But still interesting to assume not and speculate without him. I'd have thought initially Cam and Liam with Jay along as hitting partner and possible contender for a place. I am taking it Brydan would be a possible choice, I just don't think his form of late would warrant a pick.

I'd have gone the same way, if kyle had played though we could have beaten Serbia, at home on a Hardcourt indoors.
As an aside, twitter feed announced that the France v Serbia tie has 18000 spectators today and 48000 over the 3 days, making the highest attended Davis cup semifinal ever. And lajovic has taken the first set off tsonga, so they may see a fifth rubber

Well, France make the final, sure it was tense though. Goffin 2-1 up on nick K
France will be at home if Belgium get through to play them, or away to Australia. Be interesting to see what venue might get selected.
Belgium will almost certainly pick goffin and darcis again, with bemelmans and one of De Loore or De Greef
For France, Herbert and Mahut will be the doubles pairing most likely but Noah has selected Gasquet, Simon, Pouille, Chardy and Tsonga in singles this season so it is anyone's guess which surface or players will get the call. Nonetheless at this distance it appears a good match up.
The draw for 2018 will be held this coming Wednesday with GB in the draw.
According to the Davis Cup Regulations, the two finalist nations are seeded No. 1 and No. 2 in the World Group for the following year, and will be drawn in opposite halves. Seeds 3-8 are in accordance with the latest ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking of 18 September. The two finalist nations will both be guaranteed choice of ground.
1. France
2. Belgium
3. Great Britain
4. Croatia
5. Switzerland
6. Australia
7. Serbia
8. Italy
The seeded nations will be drawn against the remaining World Group nations: Canada, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Spain and USA.
GB would play at home to Canada, Germany,
Away to Japan, Spain, USA, Hungary, Netherlands,
Lots for Kazakhstan.
Looks like the odds are on an away tie and probably a tough one at that.
