Will be interested to see how Ryan Storrie does up against Evan Furness.
Evan (French but with English dad, Mark, from Sheffield, made WR 3 in over 35s) is exactly the same age as Ryan (also not the tallest) and has been 'nearly a star' in juniors (i.e. he's done very well - has just turned 19, is ranked about 600, got to 36 as a junior, was runner-up in the nationals U18s, but has never been right up there with Moutet and the others, and was not one of the federation's picks for elite training. (He now is funded by them but only quite recently). He also got a very good grade in his Bac (the proper academic Bac, Economics/Soc.), by correspondence lessons. His younger sister, Lucy, is a top player too.
Dad, Mark, was trying out the pro-tour at age 20 or so when he stopped in France for a tournament, liked the club, got asked to stay, met a girl (not sure quite the order , she's now a maths teacher) and the rest - as they say - is history. He's coached Evan from the age of 3 to 16 (Evan's now coached by Augustin Gensse, ex-139 in the world).
His favourite player is Andy Murray - not because of GB connections, I don't think, but because he loves the war of attrition style of play, the terrier, but also the well-rounded and intelligent nature of Andy's game (supposedly Evan has a rather mad, all over the place, very atypical game). And Wimbly is his favourite tournament.
In an interview this year, Evan says that culturally he feels truly half French, half British. If you'd like to try feeling even MORE British, Evan, you'd be very welcome ! (And Lucy, too )
