Liam Broady

Really good article in The Independent about Liam:

The more you read, the more impressive his year has been.

And so very sad that his father is prepared to cut off his relationship with his son on a point of principle like that.  Everyone will have lost out.

To me the picture of Naomi Broady  bears more than a passing resemblance to Caroline Wozniaki

Be great if Liam could start the year by qualifying for the AO

Thanks for posting the article, Liam seems to have won a number of battles over the last couple of years and it is heart warming to see his junior success beginning to translate to success in the mens game. A positive story for the LTA too particularly after OGs retirement, for every David Beckham there is a Chris Casper and a Ben Thornley. Liam has had to make some tough decisions by anyone's standards and is prepared to go that extra mile to be an elite professional tennis player. Good luck to him.

I got a bit confused between the 2 voices at times but a good podcast, definitely worth a listen.

Thanks for posting the podcast, I enjoyed it. Changed my perception that using mixed Marshall arts/ kick boxers/ etc... As fitness coaches was faddist as opposed to having a rationale but in addition to getting fit I can see the attitudinal parallels between pugilism and singles tennis.

Very interesting interview. All about focus and eliminating distractions throughout the year, even if that means making quite significant personal sacrifices....

For me the willingness to make such personal sacrifices is the biggest thing that separates Liam from Golding who strikes me as someone who thinks the world owes him one.

I agree. Not that Oli wouldn't make sacrifices. He clearly did. And he comes across as a very nice guy and an intelligent one too, once you get beneath underneath all the feistiness and bluster and front. But I couldn't see Oli making sacrifices 24/7 or for months on end.....certainly not without going on about it to anyone who would listen and probably to those who, frankly, wouldn't want to listen....since they would expect such sacrifices as the bare minimum for anyone wanting to become a world-beater in this sport which in turn would "entitle" them to mega-bucks, fame, and respect within the sport and beyond...., ZZZZZZZZZZ

sorry -cat just sat on my laptop

According to Mr.Sammel, Liam will play Dallas and then have a crack at 3 ATP tour events in February as he has no points to defend for a while.

little bit surprised at this, think he's better off playing the European challengers and hopefully push towards top 150 - shows his ambitions though and hopefully it works out

In a way it shows Liam's ambition.

It also can be quite a profitable way to earn money and points if successful. You can get some weak ATP qualifiers and earn some decent points if you pick your tournaments well.
