Agreed. And they DID shake hands at the end which looked debateable at times.

Only watched the last couple of games the break point for Cam to go 5-2 in the 3rd looked about a foot long. Not surprised Whittington appeared annoyed if that's how the game went!

For the record (had to check, as I couldn't be sure Vandenburg wasn't just spinning us a yarn):

L32:  (SE) Cam Norrie WR 199 defeated (7) Andrew Whittington (AUS) WR 252 by 4-6 7-6(5) 6-2  ban-woohoo.gif

The boy's developing nerves of steel!

*****

L16:  Jared Hiltzik (USA) WR 419 (CH = 388 in June) vs (SE) Cam Norrie WR 199

Hope he doesn't come a cropper there!

Hard to come off a tournament win and get straight back into the next event with a tough win, so well done to Cam! Takes Cam up another few places in live rankings as well!

Cam now at a level where he will deservedly be seeded in all but the most heavily stacked challengers which will really help rack up the points to dominate and get through this level, potentially tough QF on the horizon if he is go deep here.

Followed the scores until the suspension of play. Really pleased to see Cam came through!

He looks to have come on leaps and bounds,

I think as a minimum he can have a low ATP/ challenger level career, e.g ranked 70-130 for life,

If he can go further remains to be seen. Still think his backhand needs work, but deffo not a disaster weakness by any means.

Well he's fresh out of college and jumped into the top 200 so has to have intentions of getting established in the top 100 in time. Of course nothing like that is straightforward but not to do so would disappoint.

Right enough you do need ranking points and the drawsheet shows no money or ranking points here this week !

I hadn't looked closely at Challenger points before now. But I see it is 80/48/29/15/7 so a chance of rapid progress, and Cam doesn't have a full set of counters yet.

They points do vary at the different challenger levels.  Some of the higher challengers offer 125 points for winning and more at each previous round.

Edit

Just fond this in the rankings section and thought you might find it useful.

Challenger 125,000+H   125   75   45    25   10   5
Challenger 125,000       110   65    40   20    9    5
Challenger 100,000       100   60    35   18    8    5
Challenger 75,000           90   55    33   17    8    5
Challenger 50,000           80   48    29   15    7    3
Challenger 35,000 +H     80   48    29   15    6    3

Final column is for coming through qualies.

Thanks for posting it - the points table is buried on page 200 of the 2017 ATP rulebook

If you go to the GB Entries and Rankings section here, there is a "sticky" at the top entitled "Table of Points for Challengers and Futures" which shows them all. For the futures, whilst the prize money has been upgraded, the points structure remains the same.
