Week 31 - ATP 250 - Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel, Los Cabos, Mexico (hard)

Excellent scheduling by Brydan - I mistook this for a Challenger qualifying draw initially, it's so weak, and only one win needed for 6 points.

QR1: (q5) Brydan Klein WR 239 v Hugo Nys (FRA) WR 450 (CH 349 last Oct)

The winner will probably face 2nd Q seed Matt Ebden in the FQR, since he plays a Mexican ranked 1644 (CH 528 in 2015)

Is Bryden the next James Ward, ie. in terms of his status as a scheduling grand master?

QR1: (q5) Brydan Klein WR 239 beat Hugo Nys (FRA) WR 450 (CH 349 last Oct) by 3-6 6-2 6-3

FQR: (q5) Brydan Klein WR 239 v (q2) Matt Ebden (AUS) WR 154 (CH 61 in 2012)

H2H 2-7 - Brydan's wins were in Australian Futures back in 2006 and 2009, while Ebden's most recent win was in Newport qualifying two weeks ago, when he beat Brydan from a set down 3-6 6-0 6-4 before making the main draw and then, eventually, the final.

Ebden and Brydan are both from Western Australia and a similar age so I imagine they know each other fairly well.

Based on those scores, Brydan is playing to his ranking but no higher; he will be disappointed though not to have taken advantage of the LL spot. Do we have anyone in doubles in this event? Surprised the Skupski's arent playing this week or last?

Skupskis are heavily involved in the World Team Tennis in the US.

How much does Brydan earn as a first round looser? Me thinks he has done very well out of one qualifying win and two loses. $6450 not bad for a long weekend in Mexico.

To cheer him up further Brydan has made the US Open qualifying cut.

MTF shows the list with the cut at WR 238, a bit further than I was expecting.

So Cam WR 199 and Brydan WR 235 are in.

Another stomach-churning tennis get-up that's down there with the worst of 'em (think Stan the Man's "boxer shorts" at Roland-Garros a couple of years ago or in Melbourne this year or Nick Kyrgios in Melbourne last year, or Dino's Ted Baker shirts...).
