Kyle will play the Estoril Open at the end of April/start of May.

Kyle played there last year after Barcelona, missing Madrid in the process.  This year, the dates seem to have changed a bit allowing Kyle to play all 3 tournaments.

Naa, essentially the same dates. Looking back to last year Kyle lost his R1 match in Estoril to Joao Domingues, then ranked outside the top 200, and withdrew from the Madrid Masters of the following week. Speculation of an injury but I can't see any confirmation. He reappeared in Rome.

I knew I should have fact checked myself before posting.  When I was in Barcelona last year chatting to Leon, the initial plan had been for Kyle to play Barcelona and then Madrid.  The decision to enter Estoril was a very late decision accompanied by the decision to withdraw from Madrid.  I thought it was because of clashing dates but clearly not the case.  Just a tactical decision at the time.  Not sure there were any injury issues.  He had just lost to Thiem in Barcelona with what was a pretty "low-key" performance, so maybe the late switch of events was just a change of strategy.  Kyle's ranking last year would not have got him directly into the MD at Madrid, if I remember correctly.

I noticed kyle is entered in Estoril as well as marrakech, but seems to be giving Barcelona a miss. He's also in monte Carlos, currently 17th on the entry list so might be pushing for a seeding as we get closer to it. Presumably plans Rome and Madrid as well so missing Barcelona makes sense week off, two weeks on, then repeat and week off before Paris perhaps. Busy but exciting few months to come.

If live rankings are to be believed, Kyle is up to a CH of 22 at the moment with nobody behind him capable of catching him.

Indeed and Top 20 is a possibility this week.

I expect a better performance Rome particularly if damp, it suits Kyle more than Madrid where altitude facilitates the ball traveling faster through the air making the fear hand harder to get into action.

"Kyle Edmund happy to be with Rosengren this week. Says their partnership is still not a full time one."

Being reported on Twitter by British Tennis that since the start of the world rankings in 1973, he is only the 7th Brit to make it into the Top 20.  Quite an achievement in itself and hopefully a lot more to come.

Great to see. Only Sascha Zverev is now both higher ranked and younger.

You have to think that there is a chance to go higher this week. Kyle only reached the 2nd round last year so a win over Jaziri would protect those points. Djokovic, who is equal on points with Kyle at the moment, reached the final here last year. His current form wouldn't suggest he is likely to repeat that. Next in Kyle's sights would be Berdych who is 75 points ahead of Kyle with 90 to defend and he has the currently unenviable task of playing Shapovalov in R1.

Of those behind Kyle, only Fognini and Nishikori are within reasonable reach although a Shapovalov run to the final could upset the apple cart a bit.

All in all, more chance of going up than down this week in my opinion. First though, Kyle has to deal with Jaziri.

Edit

When do the RG seedings (not weddings wink) get announced ?  With Federer not playing, a rise of just 2 places in the rankings to 17 this week would get Kyle a Top 16 seeding, unless they are announced before next Monday.

RG seedings will be announced during next week based on next Monday's (21/05) rankings.
