That's an impressive win.  Bushamuka's been doing really well for Kentucky in college tennis this year.

Just to say, thanks. It's always good to have some other perspective, rankings are often not the whole picture. And I don't follow US college tennis directly so I heavily rely on you, and Spec, and Oakie, and all other US college tennis contributors !

Is Isaac not one of these guys that's been massively unlucky not to have been ranked so far? Seem to recall him coming close on a number of occasions. It's a weak main draw so hopefully this will break the duck.

Isaac was a decent junior and has a nice game, I'm sure he is capable of getting several ranking points. Great chance to break the duck.

Cronje is only 16 and has a junior ranking of 213 (CH 187)

This is his first adult tournament.

Isaac always struck me as a very talented ball player who never really had to deal with his weaknesses.
I know his studies, and the ongoing ruckus with the LTA detracted from his tennis, but he could/should have been a lot better, in my view. I don't know who his coach was/is (his Dad?) but he/she wasn't doing a good job when I saw him play (again, only my view).
I wonder if he's grown/filled out a little too - he was pretty slight for his age.

He's played for David Lloyd Raynes Park in the Aegon League for a number of years so I assume he trained there before university but no idea who the head coach is / was.  And yes, some nice skills but to me a lack of intensity (but I haven't seen him since he started at uni so may be well out of date with my observations and a win against Bushamuka suggests he has moved on).

Bushamuka lives to fight another day:  he's in the MFD as a lucky loser.
