Yes, how do you get to become an Alt ? Did someone drop out of the MD and he's come in rather than a LL ?

Basically if some drops out last minute (before the qualifying draw) the place will be taken by the highest ranked alternate instead of using the entry list. It's been in place a few years, I remember RJA explaining it better.

Doubles draw out, Skupskis in direct, wild cards to Klein/Salisbury, Glasspool/Evans, Bambridge/Norrie.

Annoying that they've made Salisbury play with a Brit instead of O'Hare. Especially if you want to nit pick Evo could have played with a higher ranked player and got in direct freeing up a space for another Brit to come in as a wild card.

Our four doubles pairs are spread across the four quarters, each avoiding the seeds in that quarter. Could be some good entertainment.

I agree that it seems annoying and unnecessary if "they've made Salisbury play with a Brit instead of O'Hare". Would have been good to see Joe here with his regular partner.

I would have thought it far more likely that it was Joe and Brydan who actually wanted to play together, to try and make a case for a wildcard for Wimbly (qualis probably).

But again, that is kind of the point. Joe should be guaranteed a main draw wild card whoever he plays with.

But in that case, so should Luke. And so should Brydan. Who are both the same rank. And there are others. And if they all play with foreigners, you're going to run out of wildcards.

I just meant we can't blame Surbiton for the AELTC's policy.

No he shouldn't really disagree entirely, based on what exactly he's barely played an ATP.

I'm willing to bet Joe would have played with O'Hare if they had got in on ranking, and would have accepted a wild card if they had been given one.

And there's 8 doubles wild cards at Wimbledon and they never use all of them. So I don't get the running out arguement. Joe & Dave have been a committed partnership for years, whilst Luke and Brydan don't have regular partners. So that's not a fair comparison.

Entirely agree, especially now that I gather O'Hare is there and presumably was fit and available.

The problem is that, as Jaggy implies, in the last four tournaments, Joe and David have won precisely one match. Three first round losses and one second round loss. And they were only Challengers, not ATPs. It's not great.....

Brydan and Luke have been far more in form.

However, overall Joe is one of our most up and coming doubles players ( and we need new blood ). He has a combined doubles ranking of 320 with David (179+141) in a regular partnership. And together in the last year they have won two challenger titles and been runners-up twice, their Dallas title and St Brieuc RU being 2017 success whatever views may be on their very latest form.

So unless going down my ideal for singles in Slams of no MD WCs ( and there I accept as with doubles that is far from where we are ) and suddenly need ATP tour success ( since when has that stopped us giving well probably most of the British MD WCs? ) then I'm actually struggling to see that they don't have an extremely good case.

I'd dispute that, plus I've never once made reference to Brydan and Luke except in reply to you, they're completely irrelevant to what I've tried to put across. I've no problem with them being awarded wild cards here or at Wimbledon.
