Hmm, well hope Freya and Harriet do carry on and finally get their seasons properly going.

You mentioned this before, Indy, and I know Harriet hasn't had an amazing start to the year but she has hit a new CH this year and is currently only 3 places off that CH - I'm not saying we don't expect more, but it's still pretty decent.

Hope they do have a successful trip, they both have a fair few points to defend in May, Harriet 41 and Freya 25

There must be a General Election coming, people are practicing being spin doctors

Harriet has won 2 main draw matches all year, helping her to a grand total of 11 points. These 11 points since last October (  when a QF in Canada 50K yielded 15 points ) leave her #546 in the post November race (GB #17). They represent 11 out of her total of 123 points. Your CH info is absolutely correct as a result of her starting the year close to her then CH and of 11 points being better than the 7 she had scored to this point last year.

Freya is #488 in the race (GB #15).

So slow starts, which hopefully will pick up very soon.

But isn't that the difference between their season (2017) and their ranking (past 52 weeks).

Both Harriet & Freya have had poor-to-average first quartes in 2017.
Harriet is 6-5 (6-4 against lower ranked, 0-1 against higher)
In 5 events, she has won a MD match at 2 of them, and 2 MD matches in total (R16 twice in $25K)
In GB live 2017 ranking she'd be 14th.

Freya 7-8 (7-6 v. lower, 0-2 v. higher).
In 8 events, she has won a MD match at 3 of them, and 4 MD matches in total (R16 twice in $25K, QF in a $15K)
In GB live 2017 ranking she'd be tied 12th.

Given their rankings, $25K is about where they should be looking to operate, and this is the level they've both aimed at (with a few $60K for Freya). For the most part they've had favourable ranking draws, and the returns have been very thin.

Space here for the obligatory caveat about rankings not always exactly reflecting a good/bad draw - although over the course of the YTD this should have evened out for the most part.

In balance I think it is fair to say that for these players we could hope that their seasons get going. Their positions at a CH being incidental to their 2017 form, and more reflective of what they achieved last year.
Form can, of course, ebb and flow, and a bit more flow would be nice.

Well, not that I feel ganged up on BUT ......

However, many players are 'seasonal' in their year's effort and results.

So if Harriet has had a better first quarter than she did last year (which she must have done to have a new CH, and - when I go back and read Indy's post properly - is true because she's got 11 points instead of 7) then she is 'doing well'. (Or better than her usual awful start to the year, if you take a negative stance).

So all good.

Of course, the proof will be in the pudding in the next couple of months, when she normally does well and so has big points to defend.
But if that's her normal 'peak' time then there's no reason it won't be again.

Yours,

Ever Looking on the Bright Side.
