I think the timing could work if Bielsa does a 2nd Premier League season. I reckon Gerrard will want to retain the title with Rangers ( they are currently quoted at 1/150 for the title this season lol ) and then be ready for a Premier League project.

I am no Rangers fan, to put it mildly, but what Gerrard has done domestically and in Europe with that squad is very impressive. And he has handled the Old Firm goldfish bowl pressure well. To me he is a much more impressive figure than Frank Lampard.

I absolutely loved Gerrard as a player, always thought he was as aggressive as Keane but in an understated way, the rawness masked by a level of emotional intelligence that should see him continue to thrive as a manager if he progresses to a club with technically better players. Also had Keanes athleticism as versatile but technically better in all the roles he played.

The Peter Crouch podcasts relating to his time at Liverpool are very interesting, Gerrard essentially managed standards in training. Within 30 seconds of arriving Crouch got a bullet pass from Gerrard to inform him of the general standard & expectations of a Liverpool player. Type of professionalism as a player ...  hello welcome to Liverpool this the level I Steven Gerrard expect of my colleagues everyday ..... you would expect of someone looking to transition to elite management.

Quite likely the next Liverpool manager after Klopp as well, I never liked him as a person , but he was a great player and leader and proving an excellent manager at Rangers.

if not Liverpool, Id love to see Leeds take him after Bielsa.

Safe to say our Leeds Chief Executive, Angus Kinnear, is not too impressed with VAR or the implementation of it LOL.

#LUFC we are crying out for Ben White at CB. Swallow our pride and give Brighton the £M30. He is Leeds through and through , proven in the team and worth an extra 10 points a season. Weve already pissed £18M up the wall trying to find a replacement

Just let it go!

After the improvements he made with us last year, I don't think 30 million would be enough. wink

You can thank us later.

I disagree.  Luke Ayling cost us 250k and Liam Cooper's nickname was always "League 1 Liam".  Now they are both established PL players.

But Yes. White is a special talent and much younger so had more to learn. You have a good'un on your hands.  Just wish Potter would play him CB every week instead of moving him around so much.

Fair enough - just strange how your defence is still so awful.

Looks like Potter has finally got the message with White - played him in back 3 last 2 games.

Winnable games this weekend.

Our defensive problems are two fold.  Firstly, with the attacking style we play, we are always going to be open anyway, and secondly, the replacement CBs that we bought have barely played. We have ended up with Ayling - a right back - playing CB for several games and now we have had to promote someone from the U21s as cover - Pascal Struijk.

In the summer we bought two international CBs.  Robin Koch (Germany) and Diego Llorente (Spain).  Koch played the first 10 games while carrying an injury from last season. Then his knee gave out and he hasn't played since. He is currently recovering from surgery.  Llorente has appeared only twice because of various leg injuries and on the second of those appearances, he last all of 8 minutes.

Our defense is makeshift at best with players playing out of position and at the higher level of Premier League, errors are more consistently punished.

I think Brighton will be OK this year.  I honestly can't see beyond the current bottom three for relegation.  Their form has been so bad, I can't see any of them even reaching 30 points.

Edit

Should add about our CB situation that we have another Swiss international CB - Gaetano Berardi - who has also missed the entire season so far with an ACL injury picked up at the start of last season.  Just been announced that he is returning to full training on Monday.

Now we have Rodrigo out for "weeks". That is 3 of our 4 summer signings out on the long term injury list. So our squad now is basically out Championship squad, minus Ben White, plus Raphinha.

Should be enough to keep us up and that is all we are aiming for this season.

Historical amazing fact.

If people asked me to name the highly successful Leeds team of the early seventies, if I am honest, the names just trip off the tongue.

1. Sprake
2. Reaney
3. Cooper
4. Bremner
5. Charlton
6. Hunter
7. Lorimer
8. Clarke
9. Jones
10. Giles
11. Gray (Eddie)

Crazy though it is, there was only 1 (one) occasion throughout the history of Leeds, that these 11 played in match together. That was on this day in 1970 against Barnsley in the FA Cup. I couldn't believe that when I first read it, but apparently that is true.

I found that surprising too. Having seen all those players in the early 70's I never realised that there was usually one or two missing. Madeley, Bates and Yorath come to mind as filling the gaps. Oh, and Joe Jordan was waiting on the side.

david Harvey was always in my personal 11 with cooper gone by the time we moved to Leeds as well, yorath and madeley often featuring.

memories !

Always thought the keeper was the weakest link whether it was Sprake or Harvey fortunately they didnt have much to do as the oppositions centre forward usually got his legs cut off at the knees 40 yds out.
