Week 14 - Spain F10 ($25,000) - Madrid (clay)

QR1:  Alejandro Ortega (ESP) WR 2033 (CH = 1560 last October) vs Edward Harwood UNR

Alex Ward should again be in the main draw.

L32:  Alex Ward WR 454 (CH = 242 last June) vs Ivan Gakhov (RUS) WR 422 (CH = 392 in September 2015)

Unfortunately, Alex is in the same quarter of the draw as the Spanish top seed, Jordi Samper.  He has perhaps learnt his lesson from last week & does not feature in the doubles.

Yes.  He is giving the doubles a miss to not over exert himself.

Alex not on tomorrow's order of play. So gets another rest day. Let's hope he can go one step further this week.

Looks like coach has worked his magic with the tournament director.  He was going to put in a request for a Tuesday start.

Oh dear!  It would seem his exploits last week took even more out of Alex than we thought:

L32:  Ivan Gakhov (RUS) WR 422 defeated Alex Ward WR 454 by 3 & 3  cry

That looks a pretty routine win for the Russian.

I wasn't watching from behind the bushes - honest, I wasn't.

I wasn't expecting that, even though the Russian was ranked higher. Alex had 12 break points but only took 1, which might well be the key stat here.
