I think astro-turf = artificial grass as in the Japanese tournaments. I think carpet is a different type of all weather surface - I think it's the surface which is quite popular in Ireland and on which you can play in a downpour without slipping (should you so desire!). It might be related to astro-turf but does not have the 'pile'. Anyone know for sure what the ITF describe as carpet?
I don't know anything about tennis specific Astro but as well as the surface footie/hockey Astro pitches have a particulate component as well, sand (2G) rubber balls (3G), (4G I think is the same). This more closely resembles turf and clay in which there is also soil and loose clay particles respectively. A carpet to me would be just that a mat.
2017 Manisha doesn't lose against lower ranked opponents, 9-0
And rarely loses after winning the first set, 12-2
So no surprise in the result today.
She can't win after losing the first set though, 0-3, but never loses a TB 4-0.
Good to see some qualifications already. At least there's a shot at those precious points.
