I see the American young hope, Donald Young, has just been double bagelled in Miami by Carlos Berlocq of Argentina.
That'll be 9 WCs to ATP events and still to win a set.
He's 16 and only played 3 Challenger events in addition to the 9 ATP ( includes US Open and 4 Masters Series events ) so I assume his other matches must all be college / boys events.
I know all countries favour their own players for Wildcards, but I really don't think Donald Young should be getting a Masters Wildcard when there appears no realistic chance of him making any real progress. I don't know how much good a thrashing like that does for him either.
Much better he could be getting more experience against older players in Futures and at best ( for the moment ) maybe some WCs to Challenger events.
Donald Young is going to be a major flop at this rate! Too much pressure! He's yet to win a match on the challenger series and his best result is a semi at a futures tournament! He should stick to futures and challengers for the next 18 months AT least!
Funny....as I am reading your posts on the Tennis Channel here in the States is a show called "Phenoms" and they are talking about how great Donald Young (talking about another girl too but the focus is clearly on Young) is and how he is a sure thing. You should hear who they are comparing him to, considering the class that these coaches have worked with it is amazing how highly they rate him so early. I wish the lad well we really need someone over here to ignite American Tennis after Andre leaves the game, but I hate to see so much pressure put on the shoulders of one so young.
Don't want to harp on too much, but now James Blake has double bagelled Carlos Berlocq who double bagelled Donald Young.
I'm sorry, great prospect that he may be thought to be, but at this stage Donald Young should be nowhere near a Masters Series tournament until he 'masters' his craft a little more.
I agree with all that has been said here so far, the situation with the USA authorities handing Donald Young wildcard after wildcard is getting ridiculous. The guy doesn't even stand a chance of winning a set against any of the opponents he's facing and getting thrashed time after time in rd1 of ATPs must be quite demoralising. Young has never won a main draw challenger match yet which shows how ludicrous it is that he's getting so many ATP wildcards. His best result in the seniors has been reaching a futures semi.
Without all those wildcards, I reckon his ranking would be about 750 which means that it's been inflated by about 200 places.
I don't know how Jamie managed to lose 1 and 2 to Young but then again Jamie's form seems so variable these days. Maybe there were too many pretty girls in the crowd that day and he couldn't concentrate [If anyone hasn't heard the story, let me know and I'll pm it to you].
