...But was promptly broken again, so first set went to a tie break. That was very even but thankfully Laura took the first set point on offer to win it 7-6(6)
Laura's not lost a match yet in 2017 after winning the first set (4-0); she's alos not won a match yet after losing the first set (0-5).
So that augurs well.
The pattern continues, first set win = match win. 7-6(6) 6-3. Next, Okamura 261 or Guo 352. Even qualifying here would go some way to mitigating the 10 point freebies coming off later from last years PR/SR entries; keep things level at worst, with hopefully more to come.

QR2: Laura ROBSON (GBR) [q7] 208 v. Kyoka OKAMURA (JPN) 261 (CH 223, May 2016)
Tara beat Okamura 4&1 in HKG, week 1; Katy D. lost 4-6 in the third in Perth
Laura might as well only play the first set. In 2017, she is 0-6 after losing the first set. Since her comeback in 2015, she is 2-27 (7%) after losing the first set. Quite fancy Tara for the upset win.
