L32: Kyle Edmund WR 45 v Sam Querrey (USA) WR 40

Of course, those rankings may change slightly tomorrow morning.

Edit

Above rankings now updated for this week.

Indeed a narrowing of the gap. Kyle now up to 45 and Sam down to 40

One previous encounter I believe, Querrey conquering Kedders at Eastbourne in 2014. Straight sets although the first went to a breaker. Should check properly but got to go to work now.

Fascinating draw and good entry with Novak and Rafa in the field. From memory , Acapulco plays slightly slower than Delray Beach, with the past winners looking more like a clay court who's who than we saw in the list of Delary past winners.

As such, I think Kyle stands a good chance here against Querrey to move through and maybe face Goffin in round two

Good to hear that the court is a little slower than that at Delray Beach and indeed Eastbourne. Exciting times for Kyle.

I don't know about the current hard courts, but it was played on clay up to and including 2013. Ferrer has won it since it moved to hard, in 2015, along with Dimitrov and Thiem. Though Kevin Anderson did reach the 2014 final with other finalists being Nishikori and Tomic.

ah-ha! That might explain why the winners pre 2013 look like a who's who of the clay court world

This years entry to be honest looks like a mix of guys comfortable on slow and fast, typical hardcourt entry - good entry nonetheless and I still fancy Kyle to be able to beat Sam Q.

Tomic retired having lost the 1st set on a breaker to Donald Young, so Kyle's match is up next.

Well the 1st set clearly didn't go according to plan as Querrey takes it 6-2

3-3 in the 2nd now. Kyle yet to win a point off the Querrey 1st serve. Querrey is 21/21 on points won on that 1st serve.

BOOM. Get in there BiS. Top Jinxing, even though I say so myself.

Kyle finally gets a couple of points off the Querrey 1st serve and on his 3rd BP of the game, he seals the break.

Kyle *4-3

And for your next trick ...

Kyle breaks, helped by 2 points against the Querrey 1st serve.

*4-3
