Weeks 3/4 - Australian Open - Melbourne, Australia - Hard

Yes, now 5 into R2 from men's and women's singles in a foreign Slam seems to me very good in recent history. Some good draws, but still ...

Someone will probably now point out that we achieved this last year or something, but it feels much more unusual ?

Yes, in the past we have had 5+ plus reach second round at wimbledon, but that does not count, as all the stupid wildcards and plus, there is so many mugs on the grass to take advantage of.

So, what time do we expect Evans- Cilic match to start? What time are we all setting the alarm clocks for?

Anytime between 5-8 is likely, probably around 6 / half 6, not that I'm setting my alarm for it.

It also doesn't count as not being "a foreign Slam" from a British, as distinct to Norwegian, perspective.

Just got to grips with the inside out and outside in forehand. A reverse troll is far to technical for me as a mere near 2k poster.

On Evo's court ( or Show Court 3 if you want ), as at 6.45 am GMT Cirstea has just won a first set TB against Suarez Navarro.

Berdych was reasonably perfunctory, but the women have generally faffed about a bit

Could be worse. Take a look at Court 8. I suspect Pauline Parmentier and Coco Vandeweghe may be playing somewhere else.

That's only 4 hours gone. Big John's just getting going.

Big John is out (he really doesn't like Slams). And Parmentier/Vandeweghe are on Show Court 2. Seriously, who schedules a decent women's match, John Isner (and anyone), and then Sock and Khachanov back to back on a court, with another match to follow?

And Cilic and Evans are on court.

Evo to start very soon.

Andy has been given the Knight match - quite appropriate really.

So if Andy reaches R4 no seed will await, but either Malek Jaziri or Mischa Zverev.

Let's though be dealing with Andrey Rublev and Sam Querrey first.

Cilic is peppering Dan's backhand and the slice is breaking down rather too often but Dan is playing some absolute clutch points.

6-5* in the second set.....now's the time.....
