Week 1 - ATP 250 - Qatar Exxon Mobil Open, Doha (hard)

The doubles draw is out:

L16:  (1) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) WR 1 (CR = 7 - 4+3) vs Marcos Baghdatis & Marcin Matkowski (CYP/POL) CR 456 (420+36)
L16:  David Marrero & Nenad Zimonjic (ESP/SRB) CR 102 (41+61) vs Mariusz Fyrstenberg (POL) & Andy Murray CR 411 (58+353)

The winners of those two matches face each other in the QF.

L16:  (4) Dom Inglot & Florin Mergea (ROU) CR 69 (43+26) vs Karen Khachenov & Andrey Kuznetsov (RUS/RUS) CR 607 (364+243)

Despite the disparity in the CRs, that could be a tricky encounter for Dom & Florin - & they're in the same half of the draw as Jamie & Bruno! hmm

Main draw in the singles now out:

L32:  (1) Sir Andy Murray WR 1 (= CH) vs Jérémy Chardy (FRA) WR 69 (CH = 25 in January 2013)

Melzer (Gerald) or PHM in the L16, assuming he wins that one.

Andy is playing and the 1st set couldn't have gone any better, 6-0.

Yay, Andy off and running for 2017

Now up to 25 successive wins. Plus already guaranteed to extend his ranking points lead after this week ( since all Andy's points are profit and Novak is defending the Doha title ).

Andy broken twice in that first set and just 37%, 7/19, points won on second serve ( I did notice it was earlier just 1/9 ).

Andy's serve generally and particularly his second serve ( bit more speed, bit more penetration - relatively speaking for him and great to still improve something like that ) was one of the less talked about points of his great 2016. But it may have relapsed a bit today.
