Aljaz a set and a break up on GGL and playing very well indeed. Seems to have developed a bit more pop on his groundies and his movement is excellent.

Aljaz hits the comeback trail, taking a pretty decent scalp:

L32:  Aljaz Bedene WR 101 defeated Guillermo Garcķa (ESP) WR 70 by 3 & 3  biggrin

but may not progress any further this time round:

L16:  Aljaz Bedene WR 101 vs (4) Martin Klizan (SVK) WR 35 (CH = 24 in May 2015)

I will remain optimistic.  Klizan is not the most consistent of players and hopefully he enjoyed his Christmas break a little too much and Aljaz catches him at the right time.

Loses the second in a tie break by the same score. Was actually down a break early on but as in the first set he broke back to force the breaker but couldn't clinch it. Into a decider we go Allez Aljaz!

So The Empty Vessel's optimism was justified:

L16:  Aljaz Bedene WR 101 defeated (4) Martin Klizan (SVK) WR 35 by 7-6(3) 6-7(3) 7-6(2)  ban-woohoo.gif

That should do his confidence the world of good. smile

*****

QF:  (5) Benoīt Paire (FRA) WR 47 (CH = 18 last January) vs Aljaz Bedene WR 101

Aljaz actually leads the head 2 head with Paire 2-1 although the first of those wins was several years ago when Paire was very new on the tour and the other was at Queens and we know Paire has little interest in playing on grass. Still, more reason for optimisim after today and fingers crossed Aljaz can win at least 1 more match and defend his semi final points here from last year. Clearly Chennai agrees with him.
