Couldn't readily see a thread that this would fit into - but it's part of general tennis discussion, so ... congratulations to Stuart Fraser, who has been named as The Times' tennis correspondent. Always comes across as pleasant and well-informed - good to see that get its due reward (even if it does mean he goes behind a paywall).
i honestly don't see tennis journalism being particularly relevant to this site when it comes to the day to day reporting of results and performance only the peripheral stuff, and then for the most part that pales into insignificance when compared to BiS not so undercover reporting from La Manga, when does he get his award?
There are some journalists who often offer new things or interesting insights - Stuart Fraser being one of them. As for BiS's spectacular reports, I think many of us have often felt that we should fund him to give up the day job and become the site's roving reporter ...
I don't know, I think it's the fact that there is nothing in it for him just a burning enthusiasm for tennis and a desire to see young players do well is the reason he gets on so well with players and their families.

Yes, you're right, but I didn't mean now, really.
Just when he's an Old & Tired Bob, in his rocking chair - a sort of reminiscing ramble about madcap trips across the continents, to far-flung tennis courts, in chase of the 'rare' GB victory (or not so rare, indeed) ....... and with a few Brazilian bank and builder stories thrown in
I like Stuart Fraser - glad that he's got the job. I like his tweets too.
Although, frankly, after Neil H, the only way was up, really......
BiS should write a book, I think - a sort of Tony Parsons 'Round Ireland with a Fridge' sort of thing - title suggestions on a postcard....
As an aside , what happened to Harman, after he was sacked / left the Times has he turned up anywhere else? I see he still tweets now and then on tennis and other stuff.
I have a good friend , David Conn, who is a Guardian journalist. Focuses on football and investigative based stuff, he has just won a top award for his investigative work on the Hillsborough scandal and also has done lots of good exposes on some of the financial shenanigans in football. He has just written a book about FIFA and the events of last year or two which I believe is being published in Q2 next year, he is a v good writer so look out for it. It is a shame we dont have someone like David in tennis, particularly to really get under the skin of the betting industry and match fixing and possibly use of drugs in the game, someone like him would really expose the extent or not to which these things happen

Old - Tick
Tired - Tick
Rocking chair - Will you settle for an orthopedic back massage tip you up, chair ? - Tick
Those days are not so far off as you think. Just need Bob the Builder to get his act together and make some money so that I can take up that option.
I'll read it when it's done! And buy copies for friends at Christmas ....
JonH, fascinating to read that David Conn is a friend. I'm not a football person, but I remember my flatmate calling me in to see the television in 1989 and saying there was clearly something awful happening though it wasn't clear what. Have followed his journalism for years as he investigated, helping to bring justice for the families and the memories of those who died. Brilliant investigative work, brilliant tenacity, and brilliant - often deeply painful - writing. Would that there were more like him.

Hi Spectator, yes, David's daughter and my daughter go to school together in Harrogate. David is a great writer and digs deep and in places many cant be bothered to go. His FIFA book (not sure of title) will be fascinating. His article today is on Northampton Town of all things and some financial skulduggery
His views on Sam Allardyce and England are interesting, taking the view Sam was hung out to dry and FA double standards. As an interesting aside, Gareth Southgate lives in Harrogate also so quite a little hotbed here!
David's book The Beautiful Game? is a must read for anyone wanting to understand more about how shady football actually is!
Could they find some new commentators/pundits for the TV while they are at it. Petchy/Cowan/Rusedski were just horrific at the o2, what is all that stuff Petchy does pre-match on the Sky pad? Annabelle Croft must despair having to work with them. Andrew Castle/Sue barker equally terrible mind. At least with GB not in David cup final we were spared them and John Lloyd this weekend. They do give tennis the continued upper class stuffy image.
