A challenging start for Katie but who wouldn't want to go to Honolulu! It's important to reflect on the fact that Fanny is perhaps a year ahead in her development? And was sitting just outside the top 500 this time last year.
Weird OOP they've had here, with Katie due up on Monday, rained off, but not called on day 2, instead they just played their originally scheduled day 2 program and delayed Katie (& CiCi in another match) until today.
Any way, one set all now, but Katie just securing the first break of the decider 6-4 1-6 *2-0
Go, go!

That's Katie inside the top 400 now, new CH probably in the 380s so far.
Having started the year at WR 522, acquitting herself well at the Fed Cup, and concentrating on seniors, I would have imagined that would be about the very least she would have hoped for rankingwise this year. But she has had injury issues, plus I think some no doubt related form issues. Still just 17 it is very much about building and learning from experiences.
While hopefully not finished here yet ( though that is a tough R2 draw ), I hope that she can have a good close season with work that will hopefully keep her more fit and healthy next year. If she can stay fit it will be very interesting to see how she progresses.
