Week 46 - ATP Tour Finals 2016 - O2, London

The draw has taken place this afternoon:

John McEnroe group

1 Andy Murray (GB)

2 Stan Wawrinka (SWI)

3 Kei Nishikori (JPN)

4 Marin Cilic (CRO)

Ivan Lendl group

1 Novak Djokovic (SER)

2 Milos Raonic (CAN)

3 Gaël Monfils (FRA)

4 Dominic Thiem (AUS)

(ironic that Andy is not in Lendl's group.  Should have waited to see who was number 1 before labelling groups)

I think Andy has a tougher group than Novak

Novak Djokovic's head-to-head records against his group opponents:

Raonic - 7-0
Monfils - 13-0
Thiem - 3-0

Bet Novak is pretty pleased at the draw

Jeepers, but hey that's the past, it's the present that counts.

Raonic injured, Thiem - out of form, Monfils ? - missing from Paris.

Thank you Mr Djokovic for conducting that draw and nice to use shapes rather than the traditional similar balls.

Agree - couldn't have worked out better for Nole if he'd had free choice.

I can't believe that draw. Essentially flipped a coin and got tails three times in a row. The difference in quality in the two groups is ridiculous. Djokovic should walk out of his group. Murray will do well to get out of his.

Well, just for comparison, Andy's H to H

Wawrinka 9-7
Nishikori 7-2
Cilic 11-3

It's going to be tough ............

Andy has a tougher draw. The difference is Wawrinka who on form is a step up in class from the other 5 and an obvious threat to Novak and Andy.

No Rafa, No Fed I feel this is the start of a new world order in the upper echelons of tennis, the question is how long can Andy and Novak? Keep it up? 2 years perhaps before we have another couple of superstars on the wain and it's all up for grabs, may the bunfight begin. The end of the decade will make for interesting times

When was the last time neither Fed nor Rafa featured in this event?

Yep, tough old draw for Andy but with no Davis Cup Final distraction this year he'll be fully focussed. Go, Andy :)

Raonic seems reasonably recovered after his Paris withdrawal, beating Monfils 6-3 6-4.

Assuming the ATP stats are correct that the points on his serve were 40-11 in his 10 service games, not only did he not face a BP he was never taken to deuce.

Assume the two first match winners meet second match so he should next play Djokovic, who beat Thiem 6-7(10) 6-0 6-2.
