..... including the defeat of the two Romanians - that's another MD spot guaranteed for a GB player - and the Italian. Only the Belgian left (who goes by the name of Zizou...)....

Just to highlight the huge number of juniors taking part:

George Houghton (July '98), Pierre Luigi (July '98), Sam Ferguson (July '98), Tiarnan Brady (Aug. '98), Ben Draper (Oct. '98), Sean Hodkin (Oct. '98)Josh Goodger (Oct. '98), Tom Wright (Nov '98), Joe Tyler (Nov '98), Tiran Sanghera (Dec. 98), James Davis (Dec '98), Max Stewart (Jan '99), Oliver Palmer (Jan '99), Michael Shaw (Feb. 99), Jake Williams (March '99)
Paul Jubb (Oct. '99), Finn Bass (Oct. 99)
I've split them into July-June years (as other federations often do) as, interestingly, the vast majority of them are born in the same year.
I've never seen Finn Bass in action. At just turned 17 although he's rankingwise been clear of his immediate British peers for some time, I recall some folk having reservations about him in the past though can't recall what these were. Any further thoughts about Finn ?
I briefly saw Finn playing at Junior Wimbledon, but I only saw the match point just before I had to make my way home for the day, so I can't really say anything about him. He won that match but then he lost to Shapovalov (who went on to win the title) in the next round.
I wish I could add more but the family member I was there with (who got me the tickets) forced me to spend the day at Centre Court with them.
I saw Finn not this summer but last - and reported on here that he'd played an amazing match, really exciting, and tough, and fit, and technically good etc. etc.
He then went on to have a poor run of results (which is not the be all and end all) and several people commented that maybe I'd caught him on a good day and that his form was the result of being strong and well-built for his age, implying the others will overtake him when they fill out a little.
Both of which were possible but I didn't buy off on it.
It's also been commented that he's had an inordinate amount of help from the LTA (no idea whether that's true, and what counts as 'inordinate'). And, anyway, it's the net result one looks at, not the way of getting there (that's a completely different question). Although it's true, obviously, that those who've had less help presumably have greater potential to improve once they get that help (by going to US college/ whatever).
I seem to remember Finn playing a Futures about a year ago and pushing Josh Milton to a 3rd set breaker ? We were all getting excited as he would have been the youngest GB player with a ranking.
