Week 42 - AMT Platinum Event - Melbourne Park, Australia - Hard

This event was held in the break between the recent Aussie 25Ks and the Aussie 50K in week 43. An AMT (= Australian Money Tournament) Platinum event  is broadly the equivalent of a British Tour Premier event but this one had a very strong field, since those playing the 25Ks & 50K had nowhere else to go.

We don't usually give them a thread but Katy (the 5th seed) has just won this one, upsetting 2nd seed Julia Glushko from a set down in the QFs and 4th seed Jessica Moore from a set down in the SFs, before avenging her Cairns defeat against top seed Asia Muhammad in today's Final!

A pity there are no WTA ranking points for this event but a big confidence booster, and hopefully a decent financial return as well.

Some really good wins there, and revenge too !
Nice prize money - as Steven says, the equivalent of British Tour Premier with $1600 to the winner - (=£1000)

I was curious, so I looked this up

AMT Prize money W $1600, RU $800, SF $400 ,QF $200
British Tour Premier W £1000,RU £600, SF £300, QF £150 - slightly better.
So Aus not 4x better as Lisa tweeted

Yes, but there are only 3 Premier BT a year.

It's much higher than Tier 1 and Tier 2 prize money, and even the winner of a Silver AMT (the 3rd level of tournament) will take home more than a Tier 1 BT winner.

Yes. Thanks for posting that, Steven (I saw Katy's tweets/re-tweets and had no idea what she was talking about).

Like the US college thread and European League and whatever, it's good to see what our players are doing in other events outside of strict ITF ones.
