L32: Liam Broady WR 294 v (6) Maximilian Marterer (GER) WR 167 (=CH)

The bad news is that Marterer is on a 10-match winning streak after winning two Challengers in Morocco last month. The good news is that he hasn't played an ATP-ranked event on any surface other than clay since March, when his performances on hard courts weren't exactly stellar.

Good stuff from Brydan, albeit against a 15 yo opponent unranked in seniors or juniors. In the FQR he will play the winner of the next match due on that court - Lloyd vs Erik Crepali

Cam a set down, having been up a break at *4-3 though now a break up in the second set,

4-6 *2-1

Cam was broken at *5-4, broke again in turn and served out for the second set on the second time of asking and his fourth set point.

4-6 7-5

Lloyd has an early break,

3-0*

Looking pretty good so far for 3 out of 3. Lloyd leads 6-2 2-1*, having exchanged breaks at the start of the second set.

Excellent day in California today and there's an interesting little battle for the GB no. 6-10 slots shaping up this week - and with James due to lose 80 Bangalore Challenger title points on 24 October, this is probably week 1 of a 2-week battle to be in the GB top 5 on that date.

In 'live ranking' terms, Ed's Falun points mean he is in pole position at the moment but the other four are all still standing in Fairfield. The columns are:

'Live' points (after subtracting off points due off on 17 Oct and adding Ed's Falun points)
Name
GB position now -> tomorrow -> 'live' 17 Oct

177 Ed ------- 9 -> 9 -> 6 - not playing in week 41
173 Lloyd ---- 8 -> 7 -> 7 - in Fairfield FQR
155 Liam ----- 7 -> 8 -> 8 - in Fairfield R1
153 Cam ----- 6 -> 6 -> 9 - in Fairfield FQR (this is the week his Futures title from last autumn comes off)
142 Brydan - 11 -> 10 -> 10 - in Fairfield FQR

Interesting stuff with the switching about, thanks Steven.

So if Lloyd beats Brydan his 5 qualifying points will make him provisionally GB #6 and provisionally provisionally GB #5. He had 0 points in July last year, but clearly for him a very good college grounding

Anyone any news on the player that will be dropping out of the top 10 for now, Alex Ward? I've maybe missed an update.

There are some pretty good winnable draws for the eventual qualifiers who stand a chance of a R1 match against a wildcard.

R1:  Ruben Bemelmans & Kevin Krawietz (BEL/GER) CR 400 (207+193) vs David O'Hare (IRL) & Joe Salisbury CR 429 (147+282)

R1:  Liam Broady & Lloyd Glasspool CR 576 (325+251) vs (4) Steven de Waard & Brydan Klein CR 376 (189+187)  hmm
