To add to the first round matches of Imran and Jonnie G above:
R1 (L32): (q) Luke Oakley (GBR) WR 1626, age 19 v Michal Dembek (POL) WR 916 (=CH), age 19 - Dembek was JWR 46 eighteen months ago.
Despite his playing partner being called 'Luck', poor Imran has drawn the top seed not only in the singles but the doubles too, which seems a tad ironic....
L32: Imran Aswat WR 1138 lost to (1) Karim Maamoun (EGY) WR 362 (CH 354 in Sep) by 1 & 2
L32: Jonathan Gray WR 1265 v (WC) Sagar Ahuja (IND) UNR (CH 1307 in 2013) - still to play
L32: (Q) Luke Oakley WR 1626 lost to Michal Dembek (POL) WR 916 (=CH) by 6-1 7-6(5)

Jonny is racing through his match.
There are quite a few trying to push through the 1000 ranking at present. Good to see some progress - might even get some new names in top 25 soon.

We certainly need some. I was checking back on the Top 25 tables historically and found one particular week just over 3 years ago (Week 24 Year 2013) where our 25th ranked player was ranked at 611. We are already down in the 900s for our current 25th ranked player and with several others due to drop out over the next 3 months we are in danger of it being nearer 1000. Joe S is about to plummet out when his 27 pointer drops out, Josh M has all but retired and will disappear in early Jan unless he has a change of heart and of course Evan (unless he gets fit again - which we all hope he does and it is looking good) will also drop out way back by the end of the year.
So we really are in need of some fresh blood coming through.

Indeed next Monday for the first time in a long time, possibly 5 or 6 years ( looking at Steven's stats on 25th ranked ) the British women's #25 will be higher ranked than the British men's #25 ( about WR 926 to 958 ).
It is certainly some encouragement though to see the recent efforts to try and help turn the tide from the young Js ( Cannell, Clarke, Paris and indeed hopefully Gray ).

611 on 10 June 2013 was indeed the medium-term peak (possibly even the highest the GB men's no. 25 has been ranked this century) but the rankings of the GB men's and women's no. 25s are coming together really fast (after the men's no. 25 being 100-500 places ahead of the women's no. 25 for the best part of 5 years) to the point that they are about to cross - see http://bit.ly/t25rankc
Edit: I see Indiana managed to make me pay the price for getting distracted halfway through writing this post a couple of hours ago LOL
