Well, this is going to be short & sweet:

R1:  Mikhail Kukushkin & Stéphane Robert (KAZ/FRA) CR 994 (826+168) defeated Colin Fleming & Scott Lipsky (USA) CR 112 (68+44) by 7-6(4) 6-3  bleh

Kuku played his first round singles match earlier, too, beating Rosol in three...

Colin won the title here last year in the same week, partnering Jonathan Erlich, so he will take a bit of a hit in next Monday's rankings

Indeed, Indi, live ranking suggests a drop of 14 places down to 78 next week. The Skupski's also look like they will take a drop down to 75 and 80 respectively and Jonny stays around 87.

I mentioned in another thread that I hoped the top mens doubles players would get some strong results to end the season, Dom did well last week of course but the 4 above still don't seem to be able to push on at a time of year when you'd hope the surfaces would suit them (hard and indoor courts). Looking at the rankings, it is down a long way before we see other Brits appearing, Brydan just in top 200 and others smattering between 200 and 300, so there is a danger that our representation in GS events next season will be a lot less than we have been used to.

Yes, would be really good if some of our top doubles players could have a strong end to the year.

As you indicate Jon it is quite a long way down after what has been our clear top 6 ranked for some time ( I said "ranked", Andy ). 5 of them have passed their 30th birthday ( Neal is 26 ) though of course many top well ranked doubles players are in their late 30s and indeed 40s, and Jamie and Dom are just 30.

Still, would be good to see some real rankings breakthroughs from some newer doubles talent. It may be we will have to wait until one or two really move to concentrating more exclusively on doubles.
