Farris did actually beat Peliwo from a set down the only other time they met, in Saskatoon in 2014

Given his recent spate of retirements, I think I would settle for Farris just completing a match, right now.

I had a brief but interesting chat with one of Farris's contemporaries on the tennis team at Illinois also having a go on tour, who was effusive about his talent and just felt he needed more belief in his own ability. Nice to hear and entirely unprompted.

Did they shed any light on the frequent retirements?  To me it seems like long term low level injury - a tendinitis type injury maybe - that won't quite go away.  Would be a real shame if it stops him having a real go at the tour whatever it is.

Farris has taken the first set v Peliwo, 7-5

And, yes, like The O, I assume there is some chronic injury problem that just won't budge. But would be curious to know quite what the nature of it is....

Good stuff

Farris appears to have Peliwo's number, having his career best ranking win when beating the Canadian, then ranked 235, in Canada in 2014.

Having mentioned the H2H earlier, it seemed so irrelevant that I'd forgotten about it by the time of the match ... until I looked at Helen's list to make sure this wasn't a career best ranking scalp!

I'm sorry I didn't' think to ask re injuries. The player concerned I think was surprised that I knew who he was but was effusive in praising him, saying it was the mental side of the game was his biggest challenge.

Beating a former junior US open winner, again, can't have done him any halm.
