I assumed at first that Laura had scraped into the main draw but the top two seeds in qualifying were above her on the main draw entry list, so she can't be in the main draw unless one of the wild cards has withdrawn and the wild card has been transferred to her. So maybe it was injury or illness that led to the drop away against Oudin after all and she's not ready to play again yet.
Freya isn't in qualifying either, for the simple reason that she is still in Lubbock 25K. I guess 30(+) points in the hand are worth an unknown number in the bush (as it were) though.

Shame about Laura, but with all due respect to Oudin I'd be surprised if a fully fit Laura would have lost that comprehensively to her especially given recent form so maybe it was injury after all. Hope she's back in action soon.

Laura had a medical time out for a leg injury before the second set against Oudin and given the very short turnaround between tournaments it's not surprising she hasn't made it here. There is one main draw place unaccounted for by my reckoning but no reason to think it's Laura's (not sure if Oudin's WC can be reassigned now she doesn't need it)

Laura has also played a lot more matches recently than what she's been used to for the last few years. Perhaps her body hasn't properly readjusted yet.

How about a wildcard for the winner of the futures at Lubbock? Would be a fair and equitable solution it always puzzles me that success at one level leads to a week off if the next tournament is a step up. Surely if development is the agenda it is a situation that needs addressing.
