Be good to see Marcus playing a ranking tournament or two sometime.

I can't help but feel that Wimbledon 2016 will just be a great memory rather than the springboard to something more substantial.

Certainly that to me would be a great pity, but I do share that feeling. Great talent, indeed a joy in some ways, but consistent desire and application - not sure about them.

Agreed. There might be one honeymoon still on the horizon but the Wimbledon one is most definitely over and the time has come to get back on the pro circuit if he wants to build on it. To win front of half a dozen (if that) unknown spectators in a foreign country rather than a crowd of your mates who are cheering you on at Wimbledon will be the acid test. I had rather hoped that impending fatherhood might be a motivating factor to go out there and earn the money now, but it seems a bit worrying that there's still no sign of him planning to return to competitive action.

I know that the original plan was to spend the rest of the year building up a war chest of cash to fund a return to the circuit full time from Jan next year.  Following his success at Wimbledon, there was definitely talk of bringing that forward.  However, money might be a "reverse" issue at the moment. It may be that he has so many opportunities to make money from appearances, selling stories to Hello magazine etc, that the motivation for NOT playing right now may be to make the most of those sponsorship and fund raising opportunities as they come along.

As a fan, it is frustrating not to see him back competing, but I remain confident that Jenny will keep him on the right track and that we will eventually see him back playing regularly.  If he needs any further motivation, all he has to do is look at how his mate Evo has done over the last 12 months.

But that is what worries me the most. I just don't think that the level of drive and commitment required for a sustained march up the rankings is compatible with being content selling stories to Hello magazine and acting like a minor celebrity.

Always like it when we have a week where a clutch of players outside the top GB 25 pick up ranking points

Well done to Jay, Joel, Billy, Keelan and Emma !
