Week 31 - Latvia F1 ($10,000) - Jurmala (clay)

QR1:  Jeremy (the first since Bates?  He's only 17) Gschwendtner UNR vs Tadas Tarasevicius (LTU) UNR

QR1:  Edoardo Sardella (ITA) UNR vs Ewan Moore UNR

Jonny Gray should be in the main draw.

QR2:  Ewan Moore UNR vs Artur Kulibaba (LAT) UNR

Kulibaba - there's a name to conjure with...  The fact that there's no "s" at the end of his Christian name would indicate that he is not of 100% Latvian extraction &, having done a very quick check, I note that the surname is most common in Ukraine.

FQR: Ewan Moore UNR vs Gabriele Moghini (SUI) UNR

Ewan is a junior too, born 1998, currently JWR 86, CH =44.

Moghini is 20, never won a MD ITF match (despite playing a lot of events) but, as a junior a couple of years ago, was JWR 154

Bravo to Ewan !!!

Nice win and first ranking point, I believe :

R1: (q) Ewan Moore (GBR) UNR age 18 (born 1998) def. Piotr Zbroja (POL) WR 1603 6-1 6-3

Jonny G has taken The Grig to a first T-B but just lost out. Rather fear the second set will be quicker....

Brilliant for Ewan. He was one of two (relative) youngsters I met when he was training in La Manga about 18 months ago with Leon and Hilts - the other being Charlie Broom.

It is always a big day for any player to get their first ranking point. Great stuff.

I knew Ewan had moved abroad somewhere but couldn't remember where - it's Poland !

The group structure sounds great. And with his long-term coach. Good luck to him.

Well done to Ewan on his win and that first ranking point

He will be our fourth junior to currently hold a senior ranking :

Jay Clarke 4 points
Samuel Ferguson 2
Ewen Lumsden 1
Ewan Moore 1 - so far this week

Overall that's not great at all. But it has been good to see more of our juniors in senior action this week and hopefully a few can really push on in the relatively near future.

Yes. Just what I was thinking - nice to see so many playing this week (and in the girls too)

And Alexis Canter had a ranking up until very recently. And will again soon.

That's 4 1998-ers (with Ryan just being a question of time too).

(Ewen being younger)

The 1997s still look a little skinny though.....wonder if Bob knows if Joel will be playing soon ?

I have been keeping my eyes open on the entry lists.  When I spoke to him at WImbledon, the plan was firstly a couple of BT events (which he played recently) then a family holiday which again he has been tweeting about, after which he was going to play 9 tournaments in 12 weeks.   I am guessing he is now back in full training mode, ready to do that starting in September, but I have no further info other than that.
