Week 28 - Challenger (€42,500+H) - Poznan Open - Poznan, Poland (clay)

L32:  Christian Garin (CHI) WR 280 (CH = 225 in February last year) vs Alex Ward WR 245 (CH = 242 last month)

If Alex gets through that one, he'll play the second seed, Tobias Kamke, in the last 16.

Garin is tough on clay!

Great start for Alex, taking the first 6-2 and was by far the superior of the two.

Stircrazy jumped the gun somewhat, Tobias got thrashed 1&4, so a great opportunity to go deep here now.

That's a turn-up for the books!   I don't know about deep, but he would at least have a shot at the quarters, if he got past Garín, as his opponent in the last 16 would be Clement Geens, a Belgian qualifier ranked N° 344 (= CH).

My fault - I watched the beginning of the second set on the livestream. He should be OK now though, i've had to go back to work.

2nd set gone 6-2. But as Christ has gone as well, hoping for better things from the decider.

Does anyone know what happened with Alex Ward? I always worry when someone starts off really well, then suddenly gets worse and retires.

I read it was dehydration. A bit odd I grant you, certainly a bit more detail wouldn't go amiss.

Just checked the Week 30 entry lists, and he's still in for Prague. So that's a good sign. Hope he recovers speedily from whatever's ailing him.

Seriously - that's the last time that I watch him on livestream. Sorry.
