Week 25 - USA F21 ($25,000) - Tulsa, OK (hard)

Whisper it softly...  Bit early to be starting this thread, I know, especially as the qualy draw isn't even out yet, but as Cam Norrie's name has cropped up in connection with the awarding of Wimbledon wild cards, I thought I'd flag the fact that his name is on the acceptance list for this tournament & he should be in the main draw.  Good to see you back in harness, Cam, & the very best of luck.

Reilly Opelka has been out for several months: ITF activity shows a gap between April and this past week. Injury?

Can't find anything to suggest he's been injured, but at 6'10" and probably still growing I can see managing his growing body while he fills out into his early 20's being a real challenge, if he can get into a robust, durable physical state he will be around a long time.

Although I know he gave it some serious thought I am still very suprised that he didn't follow Isner into College tennis for these reasons, particularly somewhere like UCLA, USC, Texas, Cal where they have powerhouse Basketball programs and great experience of managing young men of this stature becoming elite athletes, indeed it is where the experience lies as even the very best High School Baketball players go to College.

Cam won at a canter, 2&4. Probably plays tricky Clay Thompson next.

For the sake of completeness, though it pains me to report it:

R1:  Paul Oosterbaan & Nathan Ponwith (USA/USA) UNR defeated Gerardo López (MEX) & Cam Norrie UNR (1452+0) by 4 & 4

Cam lost the first set 4-6 against Clay T

But up a break in the second.

My scoreboard has that Norrie won the first set (and agrees he is up a break in the second)

Yep. Sorry Cam, could have sworn they had the first set up the other way a while ago.

But he won, so brilliant !
