Week 24 - ITF ($50K) - Ilkley, UK - Grass

I think unkind would be putting it mildly, but anyway here goes :

QR1 :

Lisa Whybourn WR 520 vs (q1) Misa Eguchi (JPN) WR 172

(wc) Eden Silva UNR vs (q7) Yuxuan Zhang (CHN) WR 217

(wc) Eden Richardson UNR vs Jaimee Fourlis (AUS) WR 462

Jazzamay Drew WR 893 vs Naiktha Bains (AUS) WR 470

Katy Dunne WR 281 vs (q6) Catalina Pells (ARG) WR 210

(wc) Serena Nash UNR vs (q3) Ons Jabeur (TUN) WR 188

(wc) Emma Hurst WR 1160 vs Rebecca Sramkova (SVK) WR 243

(wc) Lucy Brown WR 909 vs Alison Bai (AUS) WR 412

Maia Lumsden WR 748 vs (q4) Zhaoxuan Yang (CHN) WR 197

(wc) Sarah Beth Grey WR 937 vs Melanie Oudin (USA) WR 298

So all 10 Brits kept apart, not good in this instance.

5 of the 10 get seeds straight off, expectation would be 1/3 rather than 1/2 of them.

Katy Dunne is the only Brit with a ranking within the same stratosphere as her opponent.

Knew it wouldn't be easy, but ...

Yes, compared with last week at Surbiton, that's just evil.....

You'd think Sam Murray was in the MD.

As well as Freya and Ashleigh. And maybe an Emily ?

I think it depends on exam schedules too.

But harsh......

PS Well done for doing the draw, Indy.

Yes, the troops have arrived in force for the week before Wimbledon qualifying

No easy points here.

In fact, the three highest-ranked Brits in qualifying (Katy, Lisa & Maia) have drawn the 1st (Lisa), 4th (Maia) & 6th (Katy) Q seeds between them - the 6th Q seed (Pella) also happens to be a losing Surbiton semi-finalist ... and the fourth highest-ranked Brit in qualifying (Beth) has drawn the other losing Surbiton semi-finalist, who isn't seeded but is a former world no. 31, i.e. Oudin. bleh

That does look tough indeed.

So Mia Eklund (898) as alternate 10 was last direct entry into qualifying.

Don't know what will happen - expected a massacre last week  - but was pleasantly surprised.

Good luck this week smile

Surprised Katy Dunne hasn't got a wildcard.

This tournament is always loaded for the girls. No suprise the matches are tough...

The outside courts have no covers, so with all the rain that's fallen, will be interesting to see how much of the schedule gets played.

Yes - but last week could never have been a total massacre because so many British girls were playing each other (in the qualis) that there just had to be good points being given out there, even if not in the main draw.

Meanwhile, Serena is currently *1-4 and Jazzamay 1-2*

Emma Hurst is now playing Megan Davies, so Sramkova must have withdrawn.

Now that's good news for the Brits smile

Good spot

Although it looks like Sramkova is now playing Maia and it's the fourth seed, Yang, who's withdrawn... bit confusing ????

I assume Sramkova must have been next in line after the seeds and has taken Yang's place in the draw as a '9th seed' ( though not shown as such ) with Megan then taking Sramkova's place.

Yay, an all British match
