Week 24 - WTA International ($250K) - Mallorca, Spain - Grass

QR1: (WC) Emily Webley-Smith WR 493 vs Julia Boserup (USA) WR 226 (CH=174 in 2012)

I presume she's here to play doubles with Nao again, but a free $530 won't hurt.

Week 24 - WTA International (€250K) - Mallorca, Spain (grass)

Emily dropping in on this new tournament, I am guessing to play doubles as well.

QR1: (qwc) Emily Webley-Smith WR 493 vs Julia Boserup (USA) WR 226 (CH 174 April 2012)

3 rounds of qualifying. Qualifying seeds in Emily's bracket are (q4) Kateryna Kozlova (UKR) WR 104 and (q8) Silvia Soler-Espinosa (ESP) WR128

Hard going for Emily - down 0-4

Got crunched 60 62 but not exactly a surprise! She lost a long opening service game missing a few game points and it was downhill from there really. Bad start and never got into it.

Ach well. All about doubles anyways.

Looks a beautiful event. Stunning clubhouse and nice centre court.

She ll need to find a full time doubles partner as the singles is over. Hibino is a future top 10 singles player therefore wont be concentrating on the lesser sport of doubles at this stage.

Huh? Hibino top 10? Surely you must be thinking of another player.

She is but I can't see what would make you think Hibino is going to be a top 10 singles player!

The highest ranked player she's beaten this year is WR69. And last year she beat one player inside top 100 and she was ranked 99.

She's only just turned 21, I've seen her play 3 or 4 times and although not had the top results yet the quality of the field in the women's game isn't what it was a few years ago. If Jo can make the top 20 easily enough then Hibino can not much in it between these two. We ll see in 2-3 years I ll pull this thread back

Oh dear.

I think Em's maybe been trying to make a big statement to Wimbledon re her & Hibino over the last couple of weeks and it's not gone well.

Will Emily have a go at the WC play offs in the singles she has little or no chance of WCQ at Roehampton

I think so too.

I'm going to clutch at straws and say this is fate making sure she can play pre qualies and will defy the form book and come through. Overoptimism always a feature of the grass!

Cepede Royg and Minella pulled out so Em and Nao are in to play Schuurs/Voracova tomorrow.
