Just a few byes, in fact 12 of them and only 4 QR1 ties in a 20 man field.

Among who's not there - Hoyt ( injured ? ), Cox, Marsalek, Rice, Willis ...

And our real qualifying interest seems likely to be reserved for the first and fourth ( last ) qualifying brackets, which have divided up our 6 highest ranked players in qualifying.

Bracket 1 : (q7) Smethurst, Pauffley and Salisbury.
Bracket 4 : (q4) Milton, (q8) Bambridge and O'Mara

Though certainly some juniors to keep an eye on in the wider draw.

Bit sad that there are SO many holes in the draw.

You'd have thought juniors wanting to get practice in for Roehampton etc. would all want to play - not to mention all those playing in the British Tour events and maybe thinking of Wimbly play-off places etc.

NB I reckon Josh Sapwell may well have got a wildcard - he's from down here and was definitely intending on playing.

Indeed a shame that there are so many byes. I will however probably pop along and try and catch some play tomorrow. Anyone know if this is a Saturday or Sunday final?

anyone have any idea how I was able to get Marcus Walters at 7s on Betfair? Have chucked a tenner on as seemed ludicrous value, although it probably means someone knows something that I don't.

Sure, Joe will be favourite, but surely not to that extent.

The event guide (https://www.lta.org.uk/major-events/international-events/aegon-trophy-series/aegon-surbiton-trophy1/event-guide/) has Sunday down as Women's and Men's singles finals, with semis for both events on Saturday

Yes, I would have said Joe has been quite underwhelming for some considerable time. Would have thought young Marcus had rather better chance than those odds.

Yes. Very good odds.

Especially if you have an account where you can close it out, one with a bid/offer spread (don't know betfair). It's bound to tighten.

I think those odds would have be ludicrous on any surface other than grass but here they look about right. It would be a simply appalling result for Joe to lose this match.

Obviously Joe must be the favourite.

But, even on grass, at Felixstowe a couple of weeks ago, for instance, he had problems - lost to Neil (which is no disgrace at all, of course), took two tight sets to beat Oli Hudson.

And lost to a qualifier on hard the week before, in Essex.

It's not been great.....

As long as marcus hangs in there for a few games, the odds will tighten nicely and you should be able to get out at 3-1 or so, minimum.

On paper, Jonny had a tough QR1 draw against a player ranked 150 places above him, but perhaps the Indian player hasn't played too much on the grass. Jonny runs away with the match to win 6-0 6-2

Joe managed to match the bookies expectations, (sorry Jeff) and he beat Marcus 6-2 6-1. Joe may not have had much success in the last few months but grass has always been his favourite surface.

Edit

And as I type, Neil completes a 1&1 victory over WC Louis Newman.
