The 45 points for a win won't move their ranking up that far as it will push a 33 pointer into the "best of the rest" section so only a 12 point gain. But with each of them having now several 33 pointers in that section, it will protect them ranking wise if they have a couple of quiet weeks. They had a really good grass court season last year, so there will be plenty of points to defend in June.
Any more points this week will be very hard earned as they face a possibe match up with Melo/Rojer in the QF.
That's super! And yes, it's good that they have such a good cushion of points. But really most important that they've won an ATP-level match. It's their first this year (their considerable successes have all come in Challengers). Excellent to get that sorted. Upwards and onwards ... and nothing like a wee challenge for the next round.
What sort of ranking will get them into the French Open?
I looked at Wimbledon cut off last year and 156 was the last direct entry, so the boys current ranking will be touch and go if they make it into Paris. Another win would be a big help.
Lovely press conference video where Juan Martin del Potro is asked why he chose to come to Munich rather than Estoril or Istanbul and replies "the weather." Then again, I don't know about the rest of the UK, but we had our fair share of frozen precipitation of some ilk last night.
