Aljaz takes the first set 6-3, has not faced a break point yet!

Second set gone 3-6. Totally untroubled on his serve except for one awful game and that was all it took. Decider time!

L64:  (Q) Karen Khachanov (RUS) WR 138 defeated Aljaz Bedene WR 59 by 3-6 6-3 7-6(3)

He had a match point in the twelfth game of the decider!  I seem to recall that Khachanov did a bit of damage against our boys on the Challenger circuit last year.  Dino's name springs most immediately to mind...

Dissapointing but not entirely shocking, Khachanov is going to be a top player sooner rather than later but I did think Aljaz would have enough experience to hold him off here. Aljaz is going to need to pick up some points in Istanbul next week as he has some big points coming off over the next couple of months from his Clay Challenger titles last year, winning the title next week would cover that nicely!

I tend to agree with that assessment and I thought Aljaz would win this but Khachanov has won a lot of matches recently including quite a few tight ones.

Karen Khachanov has obviously been toughened up by having to deal with having a girl's name and it made the difference in the final set tie-break :(

I just noticed Bobby Lindstedt is playing with Alexander Peya again this week. Hope it is just the case that Dom fancied a week off and this does not mean that he is back to the lottery of looking for a steady partner.

Didn't do him much good though as Dom's old partner, Treat Huey playing with Max Mirnyi, got the better of him today.

Huey & Mirnyi having a pretty good time this year. I see that they are 3rd in the race, albeit miles behind the very clear top 2 pairs, Mahut & Herbert and Murray & Soares.

I also see that Khachanov has gone on to take out 5th seed, Bautista Agut and made it to the 3rd round.

Melo & Dodig have lost in R1 to Cuevas & Granollers which, combined with Mahut & Herbert not playing this week, will ensure at least another couple of weeks for Jamie as WR 1.

The Murray & Soares R1 match is 4th up on Wednesday, following 3 singles matches, on Pista 2 ( hope they don't go downhill ! ). Since Jamie is defending 300 points ( his best non counter is 200 ), he needs to reach the final to at least maintain his current points advantage ( 405 ) over Melo.
