On an Indoor Hard Court against a PLiskova serve.. good luck Heather! Winner plays either top seed Aga (likely to withdraw by some accounts) or Rybarikova.
R1: Heather WATSON (GBR) 69 vs. Kristyna PLISKOVA (CZE) 101 (CH 86 01/2013) H2H 1-0 2014 Cincinnati, OH, USA - WTA Premier - Hard - HW[q12] - QR1, HW won 6-3 6-4
R1: Naomi BROADY (GBR) 80 vs. Karin KNAPP (ITA) 70 (CH 33 08/2015) H2H 0-2 2012 Andrezieux-Boutheon, France - ITF $25K - Hard - KK[8] - R16, KK won 3-6 6-4 6-3 2011 Luxembourg - WTA International - Hard, Indoor - QR1, KK won 3-6 6-3 7-5
Winner of Naomi's match plays either #2 seed Schmiedlova, or Parmentier
If Aga is likely to withdraw - or just happy to put in appearance in her home country but not bothered about winning the tournament - then this becomes a very good draw for Heather.
Karin Knapp has only just returned from a lengthy injury break. Lost 2-6 1-6 in Miami to Wickmayer, which I think was her first match since US Open.
Naomi's section of the draw doesn't look too bad to me, though much will depend on the speed of the courts. Schmeidlova won the event last year but has 1 win on the WTA tour in 2016 (+ 1 in Fed Cup).

Could be worse - could be the other Pliskova's serve
Or Naomi's!
On Naomi, Knapp is a good player, but Kundalini rightly points out the injuries; I hear she was very close to having to hang up her racquet. It's a good draw.
Winner of Heather's match now plays Ostapenko [3]/Qualifier. Changes do not affect Naomi.
Heather @ 17:30 UK time tomorrow (barring a 3½ hour epic immediately prior)
It was a close call whether Hev would pull out given what she said in her post match presser after Miami, not much time to get over to Europe and prepare properly the problem. But clearly she's decided to give it a crack, will be interesting to see how much energy she brings to the court.
Two years ago, this was a really nice tournament. The court was reasonably fast and the ticketing policy provided respectable crowds all week round and a good lively atmosphere.
They were rewarded with some excellent matches and a cracking final between Cornet & Giorgi.
This year they seem to have replaced that fast court with one made of pastry and decided to price everyone out from attending.
Shame.
Heather had 4 BP's in the first two Pliskova service games and took none. Pliskova had one BP and took it.
Heather faded thereafter, culminating in a pretty woeful service game including 2 DF to destroy her chances in the set, and a blameless racquet in the process.
