Week 12 - ITF ($10K) - Heraklion, Greece Hard

Q1: HURST, Emma (GBR) 10 1148 v Bye

Q1:SAMWAYS, Chelsea May (GBR) UNR v FOURAEV, Anasztazia (HUN) UNR 16yo JCH=1351

Q1: COVINGTON, Dominique (GBR) UNR v SABLJAREVIC, Sofia (SRB) UNR

Amanda Carreras is in the main draw list. It's unusual for her to choose a hard court tournament when there are clay ones available.

Neither Amanda or her cohort Alice Savoretti have had any luck on clay so far this year - maybe it's time for a change of surfaces - they've both had a rough start to the year.

Emma gets a seemingly very nice main draw:

R1: (q) Emma Hurst (GBR) WR 1148 v (wc) Nikita Uberoi (USA) UNR

And, meanwhile, Mandy + Alice have won their R1 doubles.

I am presuming that Nikita is an extension of the erstwhile tennissing sibling network, Shikha and Neha Uberoi?

Nice to see Amanda+ get a result - also very well done to Emma for qualifying when 10ks are not so easy smile

Not taking anything away from Emma, strongbow, but she did beat two unranked 17 year-olds (and have a BYE) - you can't expect much easier (although I appreciate that one of them managed to beat the Q1 player, so that's not nothing).

It looks like she's had a very nice R1 draw too (although Grachka sounds the person for inside knowledge - impressive or what ? )

Shame that emma didn't get a doubles play (although maybe she didn't want one) - she plays a nice game of doubles.

Apparently Nikita is indeed a sister of Shikha and Neha, and has a twin sister who also played at Brown called Nimita! smile

Not sure there's much evidence of their older sisters' tennis prowess, however...

To pursue the matter of relations in this thread even further, someone has claimed to me that Chelsea May Samways is the daughter of former Spurs midfielder, Vinny Samways.
My research has been unable to confirm or deny this.
I did find that Vinny Samways lives in Spain now, but considering the number of GB Tennis training groups and players in Spain, that isn't necessarily a disqualification.

Does anyone know for certain, either way? Thank you!

Her county is Middlesex - so - still just guessing.

Would he call his daughter Chelsea ?

edit - 2nd line
