No less than 8 Brits in qualies this week but no sign of Scott Clayton or Jonny O'Mara.
Looking at the drawsheet, it seems as though Scott has made it in on ranking. Perhaps Jonny has a WC as I know he has planning to play this week. In fact he is looking forward to playing with his new rackets. Over an extended period he has been suffering from aches in the wrist and forearm, and after a lot of investigating, it has been put down to the equipment he has been using. So he is switching back to Tecnifibre which he used previously. Hoping those new rackets have arrived Jonny.

"Fewer", please, Bob, for Gawd's sake!
It's that darn auto correct facility again - honest

Jonny just tweeted me to say he is NOT playing this week. His new rackets have not arrived and his arm is too sore again, so he is flying home tomorrow. What a shame.

Why pick on BiS. Theirs far worser grammer errors on hear.

Ah, pity for Jonny. But hopefully the new rackets really do help and he can have long term relief from his arm issues or any other injuries. It would be great for him to manage to play relatively unimpaired for a really extended period so that all can get a clearer idea of his real potential. I would imagine top 500, it is how far beyond that that is very unclear for now.

Tough one for Russell. Nikki is playing the guy that beat Scott Clayton last week in qualies. He went on to make the main draw.

Haha!! As a Britain/Spaniard/Portuguese/Brazilian maybe we should give him a little leeway.......

With respect & the exception of a missing apostrophe & the aberrant comparative, those are merely examples of poor spelling.
To answer your question, SMC, perhaps because he's one of the few members of this board who have the capacity & the good sense to take such a gentle rebuke in the spirit in which it was intended, as witness his response. It's been quite some time time since I could be @rsed to to take issue with serial offenders, who are clearly oblivious to their ignorance, so they'll never know who they are.

As a teacher, used to correcting, I am often doing the typing equivalent of biting my tongue on this forum for apostrophes and less/fewer. Sometimes 'less' and 'fewer' have completely different meanings e.g. If I say' this exam needs fewer difficult questions' it is not the same as needing 'less difficult questions.'.
KK, I'm very grateful to you for that. I like language to be clear, but the only occasions when I'd seen people picked up for using "less" when "fewer" was correct, were instances when it was impossible to mistake their meaning, and whenever I challenged people to provide an example of where misusing "less" could cause confusion I was never given one.
So, I'd come to the conclusion that it was an inessential rule, one that unnecessarily complicates an already complicated language (like avoiding split infinitives). But (or not starting sentences with "But"!) now I have been given a clear example I will try and cut it out from my own vocabulary.
