Formula 1 - 2006

The Formula 1 2006 season is about to start today!

McLaren and Renault go into the season as favourites BUT Ferrari should not be as lacklustre as they were last year. Also Jenson Button is being hyped up like there's no tomorrow! Good luck to him and with all the new changes made in the rules anything could happen! (Qualifying starts at 11 and is on ITV)

this is the first time since I came to uni that i've regretted not having a tv (the tennis is never on bbc anyway so it's not bothered me)

luckily, I go home next week so the next few races I'll get to see!

That's unfortunate imoen but Jenson Button was fastest in Pre-Qualies!!!

Red flad currently on Qualifying as Raikonnens car has been trashed! Must have been suspension failure

I know I'm following live timing on the F1 site, can't believe Raikkonen has gone out already, he's my fav! He's gonna start last on the grid. oh well, Button's doing well and I like him so that's good news!

P.S. do you understand the new quali system? When can they refuel?

I haven't got a clue! But i THINK there are no fuel restrictions

Rd 2 is underway where the next 6 are weeded out (in the next 15 mins) and then i think its normal qualifiying for the final 10 in rd 3 of qualifying! ITs rele

I say they should bring back the old 1 hr as many goes as you can format!

I agree although i did like the x-factor last year being how much fuel they all had and what strategy they were trying. Oh well, lets just hope we get more overtaking this year.

Ye gods, is that qualifying system complicated or what?

I strongly dislike the start of the third session, where they are all cruising around wasting fuel to get the cars lighter before trying for the times. Why on earth not just let them put in the low levels of the first two sessions, find out who is the fastest and leave it at that? What is the idea of making them use race levels of fuel?

I`m not a fan either. They seem to be slowly but surely ruining F1 with all these rule changes.

I agree with you both! I dont understand why they don't change it back to the old rules! I've never heard of ANY fans who liek these rules! Its more boring - not entertaining as you don't know what is going on!

Definitely agree with you. I`m very tempted to just watch the races from now on, not bother with the qualifying and just find out what happens later. I only saw the last 15 minutes or so of this qualifying session and it went way over my head!

After 32 of 56 laps here are the positions:

1 Fisichella (Renault)
2 Button (Honda)
3 Alonso (Renault)
4 Montoya (McLaren)
5 Heidfeld (BMW Sauber)

Raikonnen went off after turn four, being hit by Kilen.

It finished with a Renault 1-2, Fisichella leading the way. Button also on the podium ahead of Montoya. Then 5th and 6th for the ferrari's lead by Massa

Shame for Button that the car just isn`t fast enough to go with the Renaults. I feel very sorry for Raikkonen too - the guy has no luck!
