Ashleigh Barty seems to be in a much happier and hopeful place, and has decided to return to tennis. The WTA's in depth report: http://www.wtatennis.com/news/article/5329658
I wish her all the very best; very talented player.
Yes, just read the report. I'm happy she's back. More quality competition in the women's game is good. I'll be interested in how she does at Perth this week. I like the fact she has decided to work her way up and not use any PRs.
What a nightmare for the other players! You roll up to a 25K in Australia, hoping to pick up some decent points, and who's that over the net? Only a three time GS finalist. I'm very glad for Ms Barty, but I feel for her foes! Even rusty, she'd be formidable. And indeed, they're in the SFs.
After playing doubles in the Aussie events through March, Ash took 2 months off.
This week, she plays her first singles tournament in over 18 months at the Eastbourne $50K, waltzes through qualifying and thrashes (Ula, WR140) Radwanska in R1 proper, 6-3 6-0!
Not a bad return! Welcome back Ms. Barty. So good to see you again.
Just, please, don't go bashing any Brits in the rest of the week.
She's just had a great run in Nottingham from getting into qualies just by being on site, to almost getting to the SF. She only lost to the top seed (WR 17) 7-6, 7-6.
It's interesting to see that her own fans don't want her to get a Wimby MD WC as it will put too much pressure on her. I wonder that's what we do to our players??
Having seen her play this week, she looks to have improved dramatically, but still seems a little mentally weak in the tight situations, she really should have won the 2nd set TB yesterday, but put in a couple of soft errors in towards the end. Looks to have put a lot of work in the gym.
