Week 4 - Challenger ($50,000) - Maui, Hawaii (hard)

A few Brits giving it a go in qualies:

QR1:  Dan Smethurst WR 446 (CH = 234 in June 2014) vs Clay Thompson (USA) WR 453 (= CH)

The q1, Alex Bolt, lies in wait if Dan gets through that one.

QR1:  Ed Corrie WR 452 (CH = 215 in October 2014) vs Gonzales Austin (USA) WR 758 (= CH)

QR1:  Joe Salisbury WR 640 (CH = 559 in October last year) vs Dean O'Brien (RSA) WR 1090 (CH = 507 in April 2014)

I imagine Joe will be teaming up with David O'Hare in the doubles.

Very interesting decision to travel if he is not playing.

He's definitely coaching, confirmed on his Twitter feed.

Kyle should be top seed in the MD here.

Yes. But the problem is, that the guy he is coaching, Jonathan Gray, is in Tunisia.

Curioser and Curiouser

Edit

OK.  Seen his other tweet now.  I see what you are saying.  We still don't know who he is coaching though.

Main Draw is out.

L32: (1) Kyle Edmund WR 88 v Alexander Sarkissian (USA) WR 176 (=CH)

If Kyle can get through that one, he will play the winner of a WC v Q match.

Kyle could do with some decent points here if he wants to stay in the top 100 - he won a Challenger in Hong Kong in the corresponding week last year.

Spoke too soon as Thompson breaks back and then saves 4 BPs to hold for 4-3*

In fact, BP conversions is the story of this match. Thompson is 4/6 whilst Dan S is 2/12

Sarkisson had a decent run in Sydney; beat Gulbis and Kobot in quailies and Bolelli in the MD.
