Much as I would love to win this little battle with Jaggy, I am having negative thoughts today.

I recently ran a poll to vote for which player would 'cross the rubicon' and become that 20th player in the Top 500. Right now, I beginning to winder if that player might not even be born yet disbelief

Have faith ! Seriously, man biggrin

You've got a whole heap who are very close (Toby, Harry, Felix)

You've got some very talented ones who have been injured and who might be recovered (Jack PJ)

And I think it's well likely that someone will 'do an Ali Gray' or 'do a George Loffers' and appear from nowhere (i.e. someone like Hamish or whoever who's really not on the radar at the moment, or a youngster like Henry Searle)

Ironic that Ali Gray gets mentioned because he and Stuart Parker will soon be another 2 to exit the top 500. Jay and Paul Jubb also in danger however the latter is likely to start moving up again. Hopefully towards the top 250

There could be as little at 15 in the top 500 by year end.

I think of those 4 mentioned, Paul will definitely be in the top 500 and , I agree, portents are that he will get back to the 250. Ali has the obvious potential to be top 500 comfortably and top 250 as well, not clear on his exact injury and prognosis but clearly long term.

Jay again, clearly potential for both but who knows where his career is headed - and is he injured still? Can add Kyle to that list of folks who really should be in the top 500 and 250 when they come back.

Stuart Parker is the mystery to me - I am not sure he has 250 potential at all, but 500 - yes. But no idea why he is away and not playing, anyone else know?

Part of the problem this year has been two that I have mentioned a few times, Giles and Harry  "knocking on the door" for some considerable time. They really do need to knock louder or just barge in

Giles will need about 40 points to get back in by end of the year. Dont think he will be there at the end up. Similarly neither will be Ali G, Stuart or Jay. Therefore if we have more than 16 by year end Id be surprised. Arthur Fery may also drop out and I cant see Harry getting in. Toby Samuel is the main plus point.

Is there a particular significance to getting twenty players in the Top 500 other than being a nice round number?

Everything you think you have a chance.....

this made me think - does the cut off for various ranking places eg top 100, top 250, top 500 etc etc generally inflate over time? I wonder if a general increase in the number of events leads to a general increase in the cut off tally's? Or have the events stayed stable and the cut off is largely the same over time?

I think the inflated numbers may be related partly to covid and the number of events.
Firstly China is now starting to put events back on, so more tournaments, thus more players.
Switch from 15k to 25k so bigger points available.
