The focus has mainly been on Harry Wendelken to provide #20. But remember Toby Samuel's MP in his Ilkey R1 match where if he had won that match he was certainly going to end up close last week.
Well now the rankings for 26/06 are out and we have ... WR 500 Tristan Boyer 74 points (from 7 tournaments) WR 501 Shinji Hazawa 74 (19) WR 543 Toby Ssmuel 63 (8)
Add 11 for an Ilkley R1 win and Toby would have been on 74 (8). So I make it he would have missed WR 500 based on having one extra tournament. Phew! - that might have been a tad annoying to Bob if he would have made the the 20th man.
On to 03/07, as suspected might happen Giles Hussey has slipped just out of the live top 500 to live 502 with no possibility to improve before 03/07. Maybe he will sneak back in post Wimbledon. But it is back to 18 for now
The live 500 is currently on 75 points ( same as Giles ). Harry is on 71 points and lost in Wimbledon QR1. Toby's 8 points for his Wimbledon QR1 win will move him to 71 points post Wimbledon, so a QR2 would ensure that he would then be top 500. Johannus Monday has points coming off so would need to qualify just to get to 73 points.
So 19 at 26/06, 18 at 03/07, ? at 17/07 after Wimbledon and other tournaments to add and come off in that 2 week period.
We'll get there, don't know when. But we'll get there.
Toby has 25 points coming off the week after Wimbledon however. Its unlikely therefore the 20 is going to happen in summertime. Will need an autumn of things happening and remember Paul Jubb will drop out in a couple months followed by Ali G in all likelihood. And then there is Kyle. Its going to take someone or possibly two further down coming through to make it happen.

So for the month of June, Andy clocks up his 2nd appearance at the monthly net point chart, the first player to do so this year. George clocks up his 3rd appearance in this chart, reflecting his status as one of the most improved players of the year so far. In terms of players inside the Top500, it remains at 19 for the 5 week in a row, but the 20th player is slowing drifting downwards. As Indiana mentions, it could be that the 12th June represents a high point for a while.
Neal also registers his 2nd appearance atop the monthly net point chart. Liam, Johannas and Jacob all had a successful month, with the latter two accounting for the increase by 2 of the number players inside the Top500. The total, 27, represents the highest it has been in recent history.
So unsurprisingly, Katie B claims first place in the monthly net points chart for June. Heather's 2nd place in the chart means she claws herself back up the WRs and into the logjam that is 2nd to 5th place in the GB rankings. Meanwhile, 4th place is taken by someone new to the chart. Isabelle Lacy managed to claim +39 net points during June, enough to get her into the Top600 and for her to pop up at the bottom of the line graph. For the 9th week in a row, the number of players inside the Top500 stays firmly stuck at 17, but Katy Dunne's continued upward momentum means there is the possibility it may change soon.
So continuing a trend that also happened last year, for the 6th month in a row, the player atop the monthly net points chart for WD is someone different. This month it's Olivia's turn. Like in the women's singles, there are also a couple of new names in the chart, with Holly appearing at #3 and Madelaine at #4. Their jump up the WRs is for the moment, just shy of the Top500 and so the current number inside the Top500 remains at 17, which can be attributed in part to Sam's recent plummet down the rankings and Tara's earlier disappearance altogther.
In the mission ( well, Bob's mission ) to get 20 British men into the top 500, we are into the second of two weeks of home M25s, which some of us thought could be the two tournaments that might finally give us the 20 before the various points drops coming up, all highlighted on Jaggy's wallchart.
We have 18 in the top 500 in today's rankings and 5 more that might have been within reach. However, as some of you will be aware from other threads there have been some alarming ( ) developments with those closest to crossing the threshold.
Anyway, currently in live rankings, from GB #19 to #23 we have:
Live #504 - Giles Hussey 75 points - late withdrawal from Roehampton M25 Live #517 - Toby Samuel 71 points - late withdrawal from Roehampton M25 Live #521 - Harry Wendelken 70 points - early withdrawal from Roehampton M25 and not been seen for a little while? Live #539 - Felix Gill 66 points - playing in Spain M25 Live #572 - Dan Little 59 points - playing in Roehampton M25
With Live #500 currently on 76 points and with neither having any points drops before late August, Felix will probably need to reach the final this week and Dan will probably need to win the Roehampton title for them to give us 20 in the top 500 on 31/07. Being M25s the points will not add until then.
Pretty unlikely and if late in the week there looks any possibility I'd be checking over my shoulder for any unexpected dangers if I was them.
Its going to be next year til either of us wins Im saying now. Almost no chance of the 20 and despite me being on 6 the 4 outside might make a push. Ryan, Billy, George and Charles Im looking at here.
As is clear Jaggy is very chilled about any 20 in the top 500 prospects. So what are any short term prospects before some pretty big points drops in September?
This week's Roehampton M25 has produced 3 Brits into the SFs, rather unhelpfully ranked 365, 1245 and 1338. So what does the rest of the month look like?
We are guaranteed to have at least 17 in the top 500 in the 28/08 rankings at the start of the US Open - ie. the current 18 minus Kyle who will drop out on Monday. And we have 3 further players who are guaranteed to have at least 66 points then and they are all entered in the next 2 weeks' home M25s.
So it simply needs these 3 to gather up some good points and hey presto, 20 in the top 500 I jest because we know we've been much closer before and it just doesn't happen like that and we are not talking players who are all in form.
But, hey for the dreamers, we have : Giles Hussey - guaranteed to have at least 74 points on 28/08. Toby Samuel - guaranteed at least 70 points. Harry Wendelken - guaranteed ar least 66 points. So certainly possible if rather unlikely. Possible within a single week indeed.
The current live #500 is on 79 points ( it's been creeping up ).
Such as Dan Little could in theory also make it but much more to do. So the above 3 are your 3 to cheer on over the next couple of weeks. For if not after these 2 weeks, yes I fear a pretty long wait.
It feels like youre right Indy. The 3 of them will enter Roehampton as 8 to 10 on the entry list, Aldershot at 7 to 9. So play up to their rankings and they wont make any progress really; Giles could make two last 8s and just push through. It really needs all 3 to make semis both weeks or a final and a quarter final; and that seems highly unlikely to expect all 3 of them to outplay their rankings in the same two weeks period.
Much as I would love to win this little battle with Jaggy, I am having negative thoughts today.
I recently ran a poll to vote for which player would 'cross the rubicon' and become that 20th player in the Top 500. Right now, I beginning to winder if that player might not even be born yet
